AD My Top Tips for Spring Cleaning your Home

This post on spring cleaning is in collaboration with Global Windows. It’s that time of year again! We’re all still cluttered up from various bits and bobs we collected over the festive season, so it’s time for a Spring clean, to make our homes feel refreshed and revitalised. I find that clutter in my home slowly starts to affect my mood, especially with working from home and there being no escape from it. I like to take the time at least once every few months, sometimes every month, to make my home feel fresh and put me in the best headspace I can be. Here are my top tips for Spring cleaning your home.  Start with a list Sometimes it can help to break things down to stop them from being so overwhelming by writing a list. When I know we have a whole house to tidy, it can be difficult to know where to start, but if I write myself a list I have things broken down room-by-room so that it seems logical and easy to follow. I also write myself a guide of things to keep handy, such as window cleaning products, floor cleaner, and a general disinfectant spray that can be used throughout the house, so each room gets thoroughly done and we’re not doing half a job!  Check you’ve got the tools for the job Not only is it important to ensure that you’ve got the right cleaning materials to leave your home looking fantastic, but you need to make sure that you are using the best methods to ensure the longevity of your things. For example, before having a go at your windows check out Global Windows’ maintenance guide for the best tips for maintaining your windows.  Your toilet will also sometimes have a little sticker advising you that certain products should be avoided. Making sure you’ve got the right tools will make things much easier and avoid any problems. Batch your tasks Try to tackle your cleaning room by room. That way, your cleaning will follow a logical order, which makes it much more manageable. Other ways to batch your tasks might include deciding to organise all cupboards through the house or clean all of your uPVC windows in one go so that your tasks are batched together but you still get some variety as you move through the home. Doing it this way ensures nothing is missed and you get the same job done throughout the house. Enlist the help of your friends and family Don’t struggle with cleaning your house on your own – make it a party! Sometimes it is much easier to clean somebody else’s space than your own, so getting a group together to help with cleaning is a great way to stop the tasks from being quite so overwhelming. Another reason to get your friends to help is that time flies when you’re having fun. Cleaning is a lot less daunting when you’ve got one friend cleaning your windows and another one pouring the bubbly. I’ve been around to a friend’s house to help them declutter stuff they thought they needed, now it’s at a charity shop ready for a new home. Set yourself little goals When you’re cleaning your entire house, it can be difficult to keep the momentum going. I like to set myself small goals that I’m going to hit, I’ll then reward myself once I’ve reached my goal. You could even make a deal with yourself where you balance out the workload, so if you get a really difficult area of the home cleaned and sorted, you can move on to something low maintenance next. It’s all about giving yourself the dopamine hit of feeling like you have achieved something.   Are you dreading your Spring cleaning for this year, or do you get really excited about a chance to clean up your home?
