Refreshing Our Living Room Decor

We were so inspired by everyone redecorating during the very tough year of 2020 that we decided to start making home improvements ourselves. We already did a little living room decor update (we’ll call that one part one and this one part two) but it’s time to finish it off! We managed to completely redo my mum’s loft paradise into an even more relaxing haven, and give the office a sparkly spruce up to make it even more enjoyable to be in. After shielding for so long we realised how important it is to buy those little home comforts, to get that mega soft pillow, heated blankets, and basically anything that makes your space more relaxing and cosy to be in.  Our living room decor has honestly been sparse for years, would you believe we’ve only just had curtains up in the last 18 months? They just seemed like they’d look odd after we made the downstairs open plan, but it turns out we just got used to not seeing them and now we love our curtains and wouldn’t be without them. We’re not natural decorators or naturally good at room decor, in fact, I compared my artistic talents to that of a fish in a tweet last month. So, how have we updated our living room? Last August we added curtains, a HUGE rug, and bought a fancier TV unit which added more character. We really want to update our sofa but it’s so hard finding one as big as our current one, and we don’t want to go any smaller. Bigger is better! So, what have we done now? Well, as I type the walls are having a fresh lick of paint! Of course, the Grogan house signature is glitter paint. We had this in the kitchen walls years ago and when the light hits it’s so subtle but just so lovely to look at. We overdid it in my mum’s room and the office, but we all love glitter so we don’t mind. We’re planning on using textured metallic paint as a feature wall eventually in the living room to add to the overall room decor, but first, we’ve got the base colour up and some new artwork. I chose gold frames to really bring out the gold accents in the curtains, cushions, rug and gold tone mirrored tray. I love the warmer colours in our living room decor, which are intensified with our himalayan rock salt lamps. They add so much warmth to the room. Now Winter is here, we love thick faux fur throws so I thought this cute brown and black woven storage basket (similar here) would be an eye-appealing way to store them when not in use. Although, it’s become more of Coco’s basket. We’ve needed new cushions for the longest time but I’m so bad with sizes that I could easily order a doll’s house size cushion and not realise until it’s turned up. Thankfully I noticed these huge 50x50cm Leopard Print feather filled cushions and became obsessed with them. We’re huge leopard print fans and always looking for ways to add more in a subtle way that doesn’t upset my dad, but as my mum says, leopard print really doesn’t suit him so he shouldn’t wear it. I browsed through TK Maxx’s home category page for days on end and settled on more huge cushions and even added a pop of navy blue, just to be on the wild side. We are so happy with our new cushions, they’re so cosy, warm, and perfect for winter snuggles.  We’ve found everything we need and more on the Tk Maxx’s website and we’ll definitely be keeping our eye out for more exclusive and individual pieces in the future. What do you think of this update? I can’t wait to show you all the metallic wall effect, it’s really quite fancy!
