Sharing on Reddit, a 32-year-old wife reveals that her 33-year-old husband was selected by his company to attend a conference in Miami. It was an honor since they chose only him and a select few co-workers despite the numerous candidates.

While the company allowed the employees to bring their partners to the conference, they made it clear that they wouldn't cover the cost of airfare. So if they wanted to bring them to Miami, they would have to buy their own tickets.

When the husband asked his wife if she wanted to come with him, she eagerly told him that she did. She thought that was an exciting opportunity for a fun trip as she had never been to Florida before.

After she expressed her interest in joining him, the husband replied with a "great" but later asked if she would be okay with flying coach. He explained that he would be traveling first class on their way to Miami but would have to switch to coach for the return flight.

In response to the wife’s question that why they couldn't fly together, he told her:
"First class is just so expensive. I feel bad but we just can't afford it, especially if we want to go out and have fun in Miami. The flight is only a few hours."

“This really, really bothered me,” the wife admits.“I understood that a first-class ticket for me would strain our budget a bit but what kind of a man lives it up in first class while his wife sits in coach?”

Upon hearing his wife's upset over flying coach while he enjoyed first-class, he tried to remind her that he had earned the privilege through hard work, saying:
"Come on. I'm taking you along on my work trip. I earned my first-class seat by working hard. It's my reward."

This explanation wasn't satisfying enough for the wife, who insisted that if they couldn't afford a first-class seat for her, the husband, as a gentleman, should give up his seat for her.

Despite the enjoyable trip to Miami, the husband has been “a little mad” with his wife ever since. He feels that he earned his first-class seat and that it didn't cost them anything, unlike his wife’s plane ticket that he had to buy out of his own pockets.
He’s resentful of his wife for "guilting him out of it," while she should have let him enjoy the reward of his hard work instead.

“I think he's being a baby and that he should have put his wife's comfort above his own, especially since he made the choice to be cheap,” she expressed.

The wife mentioned that they are close to her husband's parents and have brought the issue to them for mediation, but they are divided on the issue; his father sides with the wife, believing that the husband should have been a gentleman and given up his first-class seat, while his mother thinks that the husband earned the seat and should have been allowed to enjoy it.

The comment section was filled with "YTA" voters, who were taken aback by the fact that the wife actually made her husband fly coach while she flew first class.
One user wrote, “His company comped the first class ticket for him. What kind of wife insists her husband give up the ticket his company paid for on his behalf so she could ‘live it up a little’? Why didn't you just cover the cost difference of first-class yourself?”

In response to the previous commenter’s question about why the wife didn’t pay for a first-class seat herself, one person argued that it’s because “she is selfish, entitled, manipulative, greedy… A me me me person.”
“If your going to be financially hurting/strapped by buying a first-class ticket, then the reality is you cannot afford it and are trying to live above your means.”

“If you're sticking to outdated gender norms of ‘a gentleman gives up his seat for a lady’ then do you also fetch him his slippers and a stiff drink when gets home wearing your best lipstick?” wondered another individual.
“He is 100% right, he earned that seat. His work gifted him first-class because of his work- not yours. The fact that he even agreed to allow you to do this shows you what a good person he is to put up with that kind of behavior, so I would promptly apologize for acting spoilt if I was in your position. And perhaps you could give up something you would love for his benefit sometime.”
