5 Secret Techniques To Improve Mompreneurs

So you have taken the leap of faith and decided to leave your day job. No more boss. No more long commutes. No more getting up extra early to prepare yourself and the Children for the day. It is your time to take your dreams into your own hands. You have talked to your significant other and they are on board. You have even converted your spare room into an office.

YOU…ARE…READY…or are you?

This is the step many mompreneurs reach and are stuck asking themselves, “What do I do now”? The act of managing the family and all of the day-to-day tasks are child’s play compared to sitting down to work on yourself and your own Business. Luckily, there are a number of secret techniques that any woman who is juggling being a mom and an entrepreneur can learn in order to make their dreams of business ownership come true.

Time Blocking

Hey, we know. Being a mother is the toughest job imaginable. It is even tougher when you take into consideration that you are also an entrepreneur working tirelessly to support your family. Finding the time to do anything other than focus on the children can be a feat of pure magic, but it is something that will have to happen in order to make your business work. This technique is called time blocking.

It is an organization technique in which you take specific blocks and periods of time throughout the day to do a specific thing or complete a specific task. It is like having an agenda or a schedule. The difference is that you take a large chunk of time instead of small portions. Let’s say you have small children. You can’t work on the computer until they go to bed. You can make your time to work their bedtime until you get your task completed. This technique works better for moms who work from home. If you have a business outside of the home or a storefront, then focus on the work while you are away from home and when you get home, focus on family time.

Have A Plan

This is one of the most under-appreciated aspects of entrepreneurship. A solid foundation will keep any rocky situation from knocking things down and halting your business. Take the time to write out a strong business plan. Even if you do not get as formal as a traditional business plan, a significant structure will help you see the vision of your business. Writing down the actual way you are going to do business will also help you stay focused on what you are doing and what you are trying to accomplish. It also is motivating when you have a clear vision of the direction your business is going in.

Do What Works For You

What works for one person may not work for the next. You have to find your own rhythm. If sitting down in front of a computer screen typing away gives you nightmares, then do not sit there. It is ok to get up and find what works for you. The important point of being your own boss is the fact that you can dictate the manner in which you do your work. You also have the control over the pace that you work and what you do at different time periods. If you start to get into the mode similar to the job that you left behind then you will quickly burn yourself out. The children already take a lot of your time and energy, you can’t afford to make your life more difficult by working against your own flow. Invision a Salmon swimming upstream against the flow of the current. I’m sure you can imagine how difficult a time that Salmon must be having. Find your own flow and go with it, not against it.

Have a System to Stay Consistent

This may be one of the toughest parts of being a mompreneur. It is easy to get off track when you have lived your entire life based around time. Staying consistent in what you are doing will ensure that you get things done. The best way to stay consistent is by utilizing the technique of having a system in place. A system can certainly start with time blocking, then look at your business plan, and then work in your own rhythm for a period of time each day. The point of learning all of these techniques is to actually apply them to your life. Consistency will further enforce the possibilities of success and have a system in place will help you hold yourself accountable for the goals that you set.

Be Patient

Success doesn’t happen overnight. Well at least for the majority of us. A successful mompreneur has already reached a level of success by taking the brave steps of becoming their own boss. Don’t get too impatient and stress yourself out. The point of taking the reins of your career in your own hands is to manage your stress better. The pressures of motherhood will always keep you moving, but it doesn’t help when you stress about how things aren’t happening fast enough. If indeed things come to a standstill THAT is when it is time to reevaluate your structure and possibly redo your plan. In the meantime stand strong on what you have started.

Taking the steps into working for yourself is one of the scariest things for people to do. It can be even more frightening when you have a family to support. Although frightening, it is more rewarding to be able to take the control of your own career. The job of being a mother is an everlasting career, but you can make these five changes in order to improve being an entrepreneur. Nothing is more rewarding than standing in from of your children as their mother and as the boss of your own company. Take these secret tips, hold your head high, and go conquer the world.
