Things You Should Do To Prepare For Your Waxing Appointment

Things You Should Do To Prepare For Your Waxing Appointment

Let’s be honest with ourselves guys and gals, Waxing is not fun. But, it’s an effective hair removal technique that doesn’t involve an extra 10+ minutes in the shower or use of irritating cream depilatory products (horrible burns in place of hair, anyone?).

Never fear, almost as soon as the waxing starts, it’s done! Likely you’ll be so busy spilling the tea to your esthetician that you’ll barely notice the waxing. So, how can you make their job easier to do and the experience more enjoyable for yourself? Read on. We’ve got some tips.

Don’t be hasty!

So we’ve all been on a special date at one time or another. We know red-letter occasions like anniversary dinners or birthdays are best conducted when you’re feeling your best.

If being smooth and hairless is on your ‘feeling my best’ checklist, don’t wait until the day before. This is particularly important for bikini waxes or Brazilians. Give yourself at least 2 to 3 days if you’re a Brazilian veteran and at least one trial run before the Big Day to know how your skin will react. It’s a delicate area; set yourself up for success.

Check-in with your skin.

If you know you’re headed to the salon on Friday to have your legs waxed, do not slowly broil yourself in the sun for three hours on Wednesday. If you’re sunburned, the skin becomes sensitive and delicate. Waxing will be doubly painful and can even tear the skin in extreme cases.

The same goes for any rashes, cuts, or bruises. Waxing is traumatic for the skin, and waxing over broken skin will make it worse.

Always be very clear with your esthetician about any pre-existing allergies or skin conditions so that they can choose the best type of wax for your skin. Be sure to properly exfoliate the area before waxing for the best results.

Be au naturale for a bit

Whether you’ve been on the waxing bed many times or you’re a first-timer, the temptation to shave that dreaded three-week overgrowth can be strong. But don’t give in. Your hair needs to be about a quarter of an inch for the waxing to be effective. The Hair Removal Experts at Bare Tattoo & Hair Removal recommend that hair growth be in the anagen phase. This is stage one out of the three active hair growth phases.

With the bikini and Brazilian regions, don’t let it get too long. Pubic hair grows faster and is usually much more coarse than leg hair or facial hair. If things have gotten a bit wild down there, trim yourself to a quarter-inch a few days before your appointment. If the hair is too long in the pubic region, it can be extremely painful.

Be ready for some pain

The pain is 100% unavoidable, but there are a few things you can do to mitigate it. If you’re able to, pop ibuprofen about half an hour prior to your appointment. This can help dull the sting a bit.

Avoid alcohol and excessive caffeine for a day or two before your appointment. These are very ‘vascular’ properties that will increase blood flow, and that will only make it more painful.

Lastly, it goes without saying, but try to relax!

Conclusion

It’s so important to find a great esthetician that you click with and that has a gentle hand. Having someone you trust and can chat with makes the experience a bit more relaxing.

If you’ve found that you’ve tried your luck with waxing, and either find the experience too painful or not permanent enough, there are other options aside from your razor. Check out the laser hair removal experts at Diamond and Pearl Spa for a different approach.
