Getting pregnant is not that easy as it sounds. Is heavy or brown spotting during Ovulation normal?. If this is the first time Bleeding during ovulation is happening to you, do not be alarm. It could be a good sign that ovulation has taken place.
What is Ovulation?
Ovulation is simply the expulsion or the release of an egg from the ovary. A woman's ovaries contains thousands of unripe egg(ova). Every cycle, one(or more)of these eggs becomes ripe and is released from one of the ovaries.
The ovaries are located in the pelvis, close to the ending of the fallopian tubes.
The purpose of ovulation is for the released egg to be fertilised by a sperm. And it usually occurs at mid-cycle, about two weeks after the start of the menstrual period.
What are the Signs of Ovulation
Ovulation symptoms varies from one woman to the other. But the most common symptoms are:
1. Change in Vaginal or Cervical Mucus
Egg white cervical mucus also known as EWCM is the best fertile mucus. And this is why it is produced around ovulation. A slippery cervical mucus makes it easier for the sperm to travel up the vaginal and cervix into the uterus.
In a woman's menstrual cycle, she is only fertile for 3-5 days. That is she has 3-5 days fertility window.
The CM a few days before ovulation is creamy but not slippery.
On the day you are most fertile, your CM should resemble an egg white CM. For women who can't achieve this Egg white cervical mucus naturally, a natural lubricant is recommended like preseed. Or this very good fertility supplement that works is recommended.
Cervical mucus charting is one of the ways to detect ovulation.
2. Rise in temperature
One of the ways to predict ovulation is by charting your basal body temperature. Your BBT is your lowest body temperature at rest.
For women, it normally ranges from 36.1 to 36.4 degrees celsius. The temperature increases slightly during ovulation and drops again after ovulation.
You would need a basal thermometer to measure your temp daily. Although this is not one of the best ways to measure or predict you most fertile day. You can still add it to your monthly ovulation detection routine.
The best way to predict ovulation and take the guess work away is to get an ovulation predictor kit.
3. Lower Abdominal pain
A mild cramping pain may be felt in on one side during ovulation. Women who have tuned into their bodies can use this as a means of confirming when ovulation is going on.
This one sided pain either in your left or right hand side is usually mild or could be severe for some women.
Because a matured egg bursts out of the follicle it can sometimes be painful.
If trying to conceive, I will advise you pay more attention to your body around the mid cycle to be able to know when ovulation is taking place.
4. Light Spotting
Some times the ovulation process, is accompanied by a little discharge of blood.
A baby girl is born with all the egg she will need in her life time. About 2 million eggs are present at birth.
At the beginning of a woman's menstrual cycle, Follicle stimulating hormone is triggered by the brain. FSH starts to mature or ripen 10 to 20 ovarian follicles. The most matured follicle will burst open to release an egg around the middle of the menstrual cycle.
This release is sometimes likened to an expulsion which can cause a little blood to be shed.
It is important to know that most women do not experience brown spotting while ovulating.
5. Breast Tenderness
The increase of the estrogen hormone just before ovulation causes the breast to be softer and more sensitive or fuller.
For some women, this type of body change could serve as a sign.
6. Increased Libido
Nature has made it in such a way that most women have a increased libido during or around ovulation. Even more, the increase in slippery and wet cervical mucus makes it easier for penetration and the sperm to survive in the vagina.
7. Heightened Sense of Smell, taste and vision
Because of the increase in the levels of hormones, ovulating women are much more sensitive to taste, smell and sight.
Causes of Ovulation Bleeding
Rupture of the Ovarian Follicle
Luteinising hormone is produced before the egg is released. LH causes the follicle to disintegrate. This disintegration leads to the formation of a hole on the ovarian follicle.
The egg will escape through this hole into the fallopian tube.
When the ovarian follicle ruptures or burst open some light pinkish blood may be released.
Changing Levels of the estrogen hormones
Also the spike of estrogen hormone just before ovulation may cause some spots of blood to be noticed on the panties.
What Does Ovulation Spotting Look Like
It is pinkish or brownish in color and it is not as red as your normal menstrual period. It is also very scanty and not a flow of blood like your menstruation is.
How Long Does Ovulation Bleeding Last
Mid cycle spotting usually last for a few hours or a day or two. If you do experience any form of bleeding that is heavy or longer at mid cycle, see your doctor or gynaecologist.
Other conditions may cause a woman have irregular bleeding when she is not on her period.
Ovulation Bleeding vs Implantation Bleeding
Ovulation bleeding should not be mistaken for implantation bleeding. They are 2 different things.
Implantation bleeding usually happens about 3-7 days before your next expected menstruation. After a successful fertilisation and implantation has taken place.
While Mid-cycle bleeding occurs around day 12-day 16 when the ovary releases the egg to be fertilised by a male sperm.
Both of this bleeding could cause mild cramping but should not be severe like period camps.
Bleeding During Ovulation....Am I Pregnant
Conception takes place after an egg has been successfully penetrated by a sperm. Millions of sperm are released into the vagina during ejaculation.
Only about 200,000 of them make it past the cervix. And only one sperm is permitted to penetrate the egg.
After the egg has been fertilised, it starts to divide into multiples cells. It continues to divide as it journeys through the fallopian tube into the uterus.
It takes about 6-7 days after conception for the sperm to arrive at the uterus.
The blastocyst then implants itself in the uterine lining and this may cause some blood to be shed.
So bleeding a week after ovulation may mean you are pregnant. But bleeding while ovulating does not mean pregnancy.
