Milky White Discharge in Early Pregnancy

Some Women experience a thin milky white Discharge around the time of a missed period. For these women this is usually an early Pregnancy symptom.

Not all women have a milky discharge known as Leucorrhea as a pregnancy symptom. So don't be worried if you don't you may still be pregnant.

Causes of a Milky Discharge During Pregancy

Vaginal discharge is normal during pregnancy and it increases as you progress further into the pregnancy. The of the causes are:

Soft Cervix and Soft Vaginal walls

When you become pregnant your cervix which is the neck of the womb becomes soft. Also your the walls of your vagina becomes soft as well.

These causes the glands in the cervix and the glands in the walls of the vagina to secrete more mucus and discharge to prevent infections and germs from entering into the uterus(womb).

Changes in Hormones

After conception a lot of changes starts happening in the body. And you hormones are not left out of these changes.

The estrogen and progesterone hormone starts to rise and will continue to rise through out pregnancy to support the new life.

Baby pressing on the Cervix

A lot of women will experience more discharge than in the first trimester in the second and third trimester.

The increase in discharge in 2nd and 3rd trimester is due to the growing sizes of the baby.

As the baby grows bigger and bigger, the head of the baby presses on the cervix causing it to secrete and expel more discharge.

If you notice a brown or bloody discharge at any time in pregnancy, see your doctor immediately.

Other pregnancy Symptoms before a missed period

Other signs of early pregnancy are:

Implantation bleeding

Implantation spotting or bleeding usually occur about a week to your mensuration. Some women confuse this light pink or reddish discharge with their period starting.

Implantation bleeding occurs during the implantation process when the fertilised egg burrows through the uterine lining to attach itself to the walls of the uterus.

The blood is usually light and bright in color to signify fresh blood

Implantation cramping

Implantation cramping is one of the common signs of pregnancy. Cramping 6-7 days after ovulation is a major sign that conception as occures.

Cramping happens when the fertilised egg travels down the fallopian tube and attaches itself to the walls of the uterus.

It is important to know that not all women experience this cramping pain. Some women simply do not notice it.

Late period

A missed or late period is a very good sign that pregnancy has occurred. But it is not a very reliable indicator to prove pregnancy.  The best way to confirm pregnancy is by taking a pregnancy test.

Many women often make the mistake of testing for pregnancy too early. It is advisable you wait until atleast a week after your period is late.

A false or negative pregnancy test may be a result of testing way too early. This is because the HCG hormone tested by most pregnancy test is yet to fully kick in to a detectable amount.

Tender and Fuller breast

A sore, tender or fuller breast is another sign of pregnancy. The increasing level of the estrogen hormone makes the breast appear fuller and tender.

The estrogen hormone is one of the most important female hormones. It is responsible for triggering ovulation and controls the menstrual cycle.

Nausea and vomiting

Nausea can start as early as 1 or 2 weeks into pregnancy. And it usually reduces or stops after the first 12 weeks(trimester).

Although the cause of nausea and vomiting during pregnancy is yet to be fulled understood, the increasing level of the estrogen hormone is one of the culprits.

The production of HCG (Human chorionic gonadotropin) hormone during pregnancy is also linked to cause of nausea and vomiting while pregnant.

Fatique and Tiredness

Fatigue is common in the first trimester of pregnancy. Hormonal changes in pregnancy is the culprit behind tiredness and fatigue.

Throughout pregnancy, your body is producing large quantities of blood than usual. Women who are deficient in iron feel more tired and fatigued than women who are not.
