When a restaurant is described as a botanical world awaits... it definitely makes me curious so when me and my fiance were recently invited to try out the new autumn Menu of The Botanist in Coventry, I was rather excited to see what was in store and it didn't disappoint. Located in the Cathedral Lanes Shopping Centre you can't miss the big neon sign at the front.
The Botanist Decor
The interior designers of these chain of restaurants have definitely thought very carefully about the decor and it has paid off. As soon as I walked in I was blown away by the high ceilings creating a green house effect, botanical plants as far as the eye can see, white intricate detailing and the little bridges separating each part of the bar and dining area. In my eyes it was definitely insta worthy and a wide open space to go on a date night or girly drinks with friends. For dining we headed upstairs onto the balcony area which was lovely because it overlooked downstairs.

New Autumn Menu at The Botanist
Inspired by the flavours of home and cosiness of autumn, the botanists new menu (also decorated beautifully) featured hanging kebabs, deli board, pies, grills and plenty of home comforts. I was spoilt for choice but eventually I narrowed it down to the salt and pepper wings with sweet chilli dip to start and beef stew and dumplings served with red cabbage for my main.
When the wings arrived they came in a little picnic style basket with botanist branded paper which I thought was adorable! They also gave me a good sized portion of wings and they tasted delicious, I could of eaten more. My fiance went for the franks hot wings which he also loved.
My main of beef stew and dumplings reminded me of my nans cooking when I was in my teens so it brought back wonderful memories. It tasted delicious, the only criticisms I have is the red cabbage had a bit too much nutmeg for my liking and I would of preferred it to be served in a bowl instead of on a small skillet.
For dessert I couldn't resist the cookie dough, and even though it was extremely tasty, be warned it is very sickly if you eat too much so I would share with someone else.

Whenever we book somewhere for dinner we always check whether they offer gluten free options for my fiance. So we were pleasantly surprised that The Botanist had its own dedicated gluten free menu which featured plenty of meat, fish and pies! And he was also very happy because they had five lager and ales some of which he had never tried before.

Cocktails at The Botanist
One thing I was excited to try at The Botanist as I had heard so many good things was the cocktails. The selection was excellent with long and short drinks, martinis and spritzers. I ended up trying two different cocktails the Peach and Kiwi Fizz (Peach liqueur, passionfruit syrup, fresh kiwi, lemon juice topped with Prosecco) and the Strawberry and Elderflower Mojito. Both were fruity tasting and reasonably priced for a bar in a city centre.
Overall I would love to experience The Botanist again in any of their locations. I would love it even more if they were to open a location in my hometown of Stratford Upon Avon. It has a great vibe with tasteful live music and the staff were friendly and accommodating. The choice of food and drinks were also excellent and it's great that they cater for people with allergens.
