WHAT IS THE SECRET TO A BEAUTIFUL MAKEUP? (MY SKIN CARE ROUTINE PART 1: CLEANSING AND WASHING)

Hello Everyone! I am back again with you for another post and today we are going to talk about a very important topic : SKINCARE ! Whether you believe it or not, taking care of your skin is considered to be much more important than make up. You face is a blank canvas, and if it is not clean & clear (no pun intended), then it wouldn’t come as a surprise if your make-up does not apply as properly as it should.
I will give you advice on the important steps and recommend you products which have worked for me over the past. Of course, I do not claim to be a dermatologist and I am aware that everybody has a different skin type and different problems. These recommendations are to help you keep your skin looking clean and fresh and avoid further complications along the way.
Step 1 : CLEANSING :
One of the most important steps at the end of the day, whether you come back from school, university, work or EVEN from a party (NO EXCUSES) is to cleanse you face AKA the removal of make up. It is crucial for you to remove your makeup in order to remove all the build up and residues on your face from your make up. Neglecting to do so would lead to your pores being severely closed and thus leading to the formation of pimples and whiteheads because your skin is not breathing properly as it should.

You can find a cleanser in ANY drug store and pharmacies. They usually come in the form of a regular cleanser, Milk cleanser or Foam cleanser. Micellar waters, although great, will not provide as much of cleaning and will tend to leave lot of residues on your face (however, if you are a bit lazy like me some nights, it is a quick way to remove your make up).

Currently using: NIVEA's Daily Essentials Sensitive Caring Micellar Water 3 in 1 - Deeply cleanses, tones & moisturizes to keep your skin soft & supple + Double effect eye makeup remover effectively removing water-proof mascara and eye-makeup while protecting eye-lashes with just one cotton wipe.
Step 2 : WASHING : // (AND PRE-MAKEUP PHASE if you were to put some makeup on)

As I previously stated, cleaning your face with a cleanser is not enough. You should wash your face with a purifying foaming gel (twice a day : once in the morning before applying anything on your face and another time before going to bed after cleansing your face with your make-up remover and/or micellar water).

My all-time favorite purifying foaming gel is definitely EFFACLAR by La Roche Posay. I started using this product back then when I was just entering my teenage years and I can say that it helped my face prevent further complications such as intense acne and more. My mother always taught me that taking care of your face is essential because it's what people see first when they interact with you.

On another note, nowadays, many people use the electronic brushes (I use: the Clinique Sonic System Purifying Brush). They provide further cleansing of the skin and help target and fight acne prone skins. Furthermore, do not forget to use a scrub on your skin once a week.

Currently using: EFFACLAR by La Roche Posay and occasionally the Clinique Sonic System Purifying Brush alongside the Clinique products + the 7 day scrub cream by the same brand for my scrubbing routine.

NB: Many brands are to be found when looking for the perfect electronic cleansing brush which can cost up to a $150 ; from the Clinique Sonic Brushes costing $90 with  one brush head to be replaced every 3 months for $26, the MIA electronic brushes for $99 or even the Phillips electronic brush for 150$. Regardless of their prices, those brushes are all effective. Brushes are clinically proved to be more effective removing makeup, dirt and oil versus hand wash.

Step 3 : TONING :
After washing your Face, apply a gentle toner to your face with the help of a cotton pad. Toners are great as they provide a final cleaning touch, removing any last and final residue left from your makeup as well as providing a fresh feeling to your face ! Be careful, specifically for girls with very dry or oily skin, try and avoid toners with alcohol as they extremely dry out your skin.

Currently using:
NIVEA's Daily Essentials Sensitive Caring Micellar Water 3 in 1 - Deeply cleanses, tones & moisturizes to keep your skin soft & supple (used in step 1 too).

Step 4 : Moisturizing :

If you didn’t moisturize, do you even think the other steps mattered ?! The last step to your routine should be to moisturize your face with a light moisturizer. Be careful and only go for products that are non-comedogenic. If a product is comedogenic, it means that there are certain products and oils inside of it that will create a sort of barrier and fill in your pores and clog them. So please avoid them. Also, I recommend that you go for products that come in tubes rather than a pot. The reason simply being of hygiene. Dipping your hands in a pot could build up bacteries that you will therefore re-apply constantly onto your skin. Or, you could buy moisturizing mists (I LOVE THESE) !!! If you like the traditional way, you can also apply cold pressed oils such as Rosehip Oil to your face (it is known to calm down the redness as well as having anti-ageing properties. But be aware, certain oils such as coconut oil do not get absorbed by your skin and will clog your pores.

Currently using both L'Oréal YOUTH CODE SKIN ILLUMINATOR tube for hydration and Boot's Essentials Cucumber Moisturizing Cream (for my face and body) although I'm not a big fan of pots.

The secret? A clean and cared-for skin!
