How to Turn a Holiday Look into an Updated Every Day Style

Happy 2019! I hope the year brings only the best of everything into your lives: peace, love, mental clarity, vision realization and, of course, great style inspiration!

Even though the Holidays are over, I think there is nothing wrong with keeping a little glitz and magic in your wardrobe throughout the Season, which is a great opportunity to re-wear some of those party pieces you purchased for the Holiday Parties that are now hanging in your closet awaiting their fate — will they be picked up again next Season? Chucked? Donated? Forgotten? The jury is still out, isn’t it?

I would like to encourage you to dust them off and put them to good use. I’ll admit, sequins and shine can feel a little seasonal, but they CAN be more evergreen if styled in a classic and creative way.

To inspire you, I put together this outfit with one of my favorite GMG Collection Holiday Pieces – the Beatrix Fit-n-Flare Dress. It has the perfect cap sleeves and sash you can tie in a bow. For a more casual look, you can even swap out the sash for a regular belt, grounding the dress a bit.

I paired the dress with my favorite Elimovna Coat from Anthropologie from Years Ago (another piece I like to call “my vintage”), Vince Camuto Peep-toe pumps – which are the most comfortable heels I own, and a sequin clutch by Deepa Gurnani that I purchased from Henri Bendel many years ago, back when they carried 3rd party designers.

As a finishing touch, I winterized the look with my wine-colored shearling adorned gloves.

I kept to a monochromatic color palette, and relied on outfit details to make the look interesting — the texture of the coat and bag + gloves worked beautifully to tone down the sequins, making them appear more special-occasion and elegant vs party-only. The same styling principles would work well with sequin tanks/blouses, skirts and pants – by sticking to a color-on-color or monochromatic tones and using textured accessories and outfit elements you will help them feel more season-less and every-day appropriate.

I tagged my pieces in the carousel below, plus some other ones for inspiration, I even found the Elimovna Tracy Reese Coat on eBay in a size 2 (one lucky person can grab it!)

Hope this look inspires you to pull some of those Holiday pieces back out of storage and mix them into your looks for the Season. I would love to see the outfits you create, please do share them on Instagram using hashtag #ModnitsaStyle – and I’ll be sure to repost them on my Insta Stories!

xo,
