4 Non-Surgical Ways to Reduce Wrinkles and Fine Lines

Skin starts to age as soon as we pass our teen years. Natural ageing, also known as intrinsic ageing, is controlled by our genes and presents as a loss of youthful appearance, lines and wrinkles on the face as well as drier skin. In addition to our genes, environmental factors can also cause our skin to age prematurely. This is known as extrinsic ageing. If your face has started showing the classic signs of ageing such as fine lines and wrinkles, here are a few non-surgical ways you can reduce their appearance.

Chemical Peels

Chemical peels are used to remove the outer layer of dead skin from the treated area. The procedure uses a mix of trichloroacetic acid, lactic acid, glycolic acid, salicylic acid and phenol to remove this outer layer. Although you might feel a bit of stinging and irritation during the procedure, that should go away soon after the procedure completes. It will take a few days for the outer skin layer to peel completely, which will reveal smoother, newer and supple skin.

Using Retinoids

Retinoids are vitamin A derivatives. They work by increasing the amount and production of collagen, which is the protein responsible for the skin’s support structure. Do note that it will take a few weeks of using a product containing retinoids to see results, so you should be patient. There may be irritation for some people, but if this happens to you, alternate the days you use the product and apply liberal amounts of moisturiser after. Also, do not use products containing retinoids if you are pregnant because their effects on pregnancies are not yet clear.

Botox InjectionsAlthough Botox is an injectable procedure, it is still minimally invasive and this is why it is considered non-surgical. Botox is one of a few neurotoxin injections that are used to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines, especially on the face. When you get Botox in Bromley, the doctor will inject different areas of the face with a protein derived from the botulinum toxin. The procedure takes a few minutes and causes very little pain.

Botox relaxes specific muscles depending on the injection site and helps smooth out the appearance of wrinkles and lines. Botox is used to smooth wrinkles on the forehead, around the eyes and brows as well as around the lip area.

Opt for Laser Treatments

In addition to reducing the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines, laser treatments also have some other benefits. Resurfacing lasers, for example, can reduce the appearance of blood vessels and brown spots and kickstart the production of collagen. Due to advancements in laser treatment technology, these treatments are now safe and will not irritate the skin or leave it looking red.

There are lots of surgical procedures that can help you get rid of wrinkles and fine lines. However, all surgical procedures carry some risk and it will take longer to recover from these procedures. This is why it is better to go for non-surgical options as they do not need any recovery time and have fewer adverse effects compared to surgery.
