The Right Cut – Types of Cutting Techniques For Fruit

Whether your serving up Fruit to guests or just looking for a quick snack, Cutting fruit can be annoying and dangerous if not done properly. Depending on the type of fruit you are cutting, different techniques work best. To save you time and frustration, here are five genius fruit cutting techniques for you.

The Orange

To prevent sitting there peeling at the skin with your fingernails and having the smell of citrus linger on your hands for hours, try these easy steps:

1.     Cut the top and bottom edges off

2.     Stand the orange upright

3.     Cut a slit along the length of one side

4.     Pull the orange apart and stretch it to lay flat

5.     Peel the slices individually and enjoy!

The Banana

If you ever try to peel a banana from the stem and have trouble, you end up mushing the banana, leaving it soft and bruised. The problem? You are actually peeling it from the wrong end. Next time, flip it over, pinch the bottom skin together and peel it from the “bottom.” Works like a charm, every time.

The Mango

Instead of wrestling with the stone fruit, follow these steps:

1.     Slice the mango on each side of the pit

2.     Take each slice and slide it down the side of a glass, peeling the skin off

3.     Enjoy!

The Strawberry

This technique is not only easy, but fun to do. It could be a great way to let kids help prep the fruit before eating also! To remove the hull of the strawberry, along with the small green leaves, all you need is a plastic drinking straw.

Take the plastic straw and push up through the bottom point of the strawberry. The hull will pop out the top, along with any leaves. You can then eat and enjoy!

The Watermelon

The sheer size of a Watermelon can leave some feeling overwhelmed at the thought of slicing it up.  However, this trick will make it a breeze.

·       Slice the watermelon in half

·       Place one half, flat side down on a wood cutting board

·       Cut long strips horizontally and vertically along the entire watermelon

·       Serve up as watermelon skewers and enjoy!

Next time you’re in the mood for fruit, pull out your wood cutting board and put these tips to use. To spruce up your kitchen a bit, consider upgrading your cutting boards to beautiful laser engraved cutting boards, such as those offered by NGrava.
