Showing the kids you care, even when you can’t be there

You know too well those times when work gets in the way of your time with the kids. Perhaps it’s budget time, year end or preparations for a show or new product launch. Whatever—all you know is that it feels like forever since you Spent quality time with the brood. You miss them.

And you know they miss you, too.

It’s important that even when life gets in the way of valuable time spent with your children, you find ways to show that you’re still around, still care…still love them. Next time a busy spell starts to take over your life, try these tips to stay in touch with your kids and let them know you’re thinking of them.

When you do get two minutes with them, make sure you let them know how much you enjoy being their mom and how proud you are of them.

Rules were made to be broken…well some of them, anyway. If it’s a Friday night, and you’ve been working late and missed bedtime, let them stay up till you get home and then spend a little quality time with them. They’ll appreciate the thought, and you’ll feel better, too.

Out early in the morning before the kids are up? Get creative when you make their lunch the night before. Heart shaped sandwiches (use a cookie cutter) will let them know you’re thinking of them.

Buy little gifts and place them in their shoes. That way, everyone will start their day on the right foot.

And finally, if you can book a day’s vacation after the busy period, do it—and spend the whole day with the kids. What better way could there be to catch up.

Follow these simple tips, and the times when work takes over won’t be so daunting for you…or the ones who miss you so much!
