Vintage Headscarves – Your Ultimate Tutorial Guide

Vintage Headscarves – Your Ultimate Tutorial

Whether you’re a seasoned vintage dresser, or simply starting out with a bit of retro; there is one item you absolutely have to have in your wardrobe and that is a vintage headscarf.

Headscarves win on two fronts – they are both pretty AND practical. They are great for covering root regrowth as well as keeping your hair away from your face in warm weather or when you have manual tasks to see to such as cooking, gardening or DIY. They are also great in hot weather to stop that awful fuzzy fringe situation! We’ve all been there!

The other thing I love about headscarves, is that they look really funky with so many different kinds of outfits. You could just be wearing a really simple outfit of jeans and a white t-shirt with some Converse and as soon as you throw a head scarf on, you immediately look like an uber cool retro chick!

By the same token, you can wear a cute head scarf with your favourite 50s dress too, maybe in a matching or complementing colour. This adds another element of cute to your ensemble and gives it even more authenticity!

And vintage and retro headscarves have not escaped the world of celebrity fashion either! I’ve picked out my Top Ten Celebrity Head Scarf Wearers as follows…

1. Jessie J

2. Ariana Grande

3. Katy Perry

4. Meghan Trainor

5. Kylie Minogue

6. Nicole Ritchie

7. Taylor Swift

8. Paloma Faith

9. Kim Kardashian

10. Rihanna

As you can see from some of these famulous famous femmes, there are many different ways to wear a vintage headscarf.

You can buy brand new and handmade headscarfs that are already shaped the right way to make them super easy to wear. But don’t forget that buying original vintage scarves is a clever way to work the look. With just one scarf you can create a multitude of styles. Here, our lovely assistant Hayley shows you just a few…

If you fold a large square scarf diagonally into a triangle, and then fold the tip of the triangle inwards a few times, you will then have a long strip. Simply wrap this around your head and bring to two ends together at equal distance above your head. Then tie once before tying a large bow. Fan out the bow and tuck the loose ends away and you’re left with a gorgeous retro striking look that’s oh so cute!

Sticking with the triangular shape, you can also create these other two looks easily, as well as many more. And there are so many amazing different patterns, colours and prints to discover, it can become quite addictive!

You can find handmade headscarves and vintage scarves on our website at www.myvintage.co.uk as well as our vintage boutique in Darwen, Lancashire.

And don’t forget to send us your pictures when you recreate some of these looks!

Until next time
