60s Fashion

1960s Fashion

When you look at modern day Fashion it really isn’t all that unusual to see items that are outside of the fashion box. In fact we now expect people to make bolder fashion choices and we’re much more used to seeing people who choose to dress a little outside of the box. However back in the 1960s fashion choices were much more suited and people generally stuck to the norm when it came to what to wear.

1960s Fashion

It was during the very start of the 1960s that we started to see people branching out and take on different fashion choices and styles. It was this decade that people really started to take a risk when it came to fashion and it is this that has followed us through to today’s modern fashion trends. In fact when it comes to fashion we can really put a lot of what we wear now a day’s down to Clothing from the 1960s.

Even fashion that isn’t directly inspired by this time will have probably in some way a link back to the 1960s. Even if it is just the fact that it was during these years that people started to take more of a fashion risk and that is something that was fundamental to the world of fashion choices.

Wearing 1960s Inspired Clothing

Tailoring was a big part of the 1960s fashion choices and this really shows in the clothes that we wear now a days that take inspiration from this time. Ladies such as Jackie Kennedy helped to inspire a generation of suit wearing females and smart clothing.

Although tailoring stayed around for the whole of the 1960s, during the later part of this decade we started to see miniskirts coming into fashion. This involved women wearing pencil style skirts and big, bold tailored tops with perhaps larger shoulder pads to finish off the outfit.

Colour and Pattern

One thing that this time was known for was big, bold colours and patterns. If you are looking to wearing clothing that is inspired by this time then neon colours, patterns and tailored clothing is perfect. For accessories and style to finish the look off you should look at adding big hair, false eye lashes and bold make up, with plenty of glitter.

Mixing Vintage In With Modern

As we know 1960s fashion really helped to inspire the fashion and trends of today, which means that it is easy to mix both generations in your style choices and get the best of both worlds. Simply mix and match patterns – perhaps a top with a pair of tailored trousers to finish it off perfectly. In general 1960s clothing was all about being confidence and dressing to impress, so use this as your inspiration  if you’re looking for a way to dress in a way that gives a nod to the 1960s.
