Ukraine SS17 Fashion Week Highlights Part 1

Ukraine isn't the first place you think of when you think about fashion, but the collections that came out of the Spring 2017 season offered some true gems and pieces that are worth being spoken about.

FROLOV

Ok so basically anything Sailor Moon inspired I will probably love, which is why I'm starting this post with Frolov. I mean, look at the tuxedo mask T-shirt. I desperately need that in my life. Aside from the Sailor Moon inspiration, there was a strong sportswear/street wear vibe to it that I love. Oversized hoodies, glittery slippers, lace stars and fishnet decorated pieces were seen, creating a very mixed but cohesive and cool collection. It was maybe my favourite collection from Ukraine!

ELENA BURBA

Another cool and fun street-wear worthy collection. I adored this collection from Elena Burba and would happily wear any piece from it. The graphic, slogan t-shirts, bold patterns and embroidered denim all came together to create a fun, rock 'n' roll vibe. My favourite piece, aside from the denim, was either the bright red, high waisted Pants, or the black and white graphic pants. Oh, and I loved the silver glitter lips that the models wore.

ELENAREVA

I'm not always the biggest fan of collections like this one from Elenareva, but I do have to admit it was beautiful. It was flowy, feminine and airy with sheer fabric and ruffled, tiered dresses. The fabric of some of the softer pieces flowed beautifully over the models, and the setting of the show created an almost fairytale like feel. For me, though, and the reason I included this show in my highlights, the stars were the velvet pieces, specifically the wide leg, high waisted lilac pants. I also adored the more menswear inspired pieces, like the oversized white suit below.

LAKE STUDIO

Lastly, I want to quickly talk about Lake Studio, because they brought out a really beautiful collection this season. The inspiration was the idea of a predator and it's prey, with the more masculine pieces featuring images of tigers and wolves, and the feminine slip dresses having lamb and deer on them. It's a cool concept that was executed well, but my favourite pieces were those that actually didn't feature the animal prints; the brown, velvet slip dress and the second look below, with the pink shirt and pants tied together with a brown skirt/belt of raw edged fabric.
