Top Style Tips

Style” – a particular procedure by which something is done; a manner or way.

The above statement absolutely confirms that Style is not just what hangs in your wardrobe. It is a way of life. My own personal sense of style has developed over the years and become what it is today from following three simple rules:

OWN IT: How I feel is reflected in what I put on in the morning so I 100% believe that whatever you wear you should absolutely love. Whatever you wear, how you do your make up/hair and what you do with your day – they are all your own decisions and choices. You should completely OWN the choices that you make and strut with confidence.

CELEBRATE YOURSELF: There is only one you, you are the original so celebrate this! Whatever you have done so far in your life has led you to where you are now and nobody else’s journey is exactly the same as yours – instead of wasting time wondering how much better it would be like to be Dita Von Teese – celebrate YOU.

WORK WITH WHAT YA GOT! We all have bits about our bodies that we don’t particularly like so if you absolutely cannot accept those bits then work with them instead. If you have great curves, wear hourglass wiggle dresses, if you have wobbly bits – try a fifties style fit and flare.

The Northernettes

When I am on stage, this is when I feel the most like “me.” Music and style come as a pair for me and I have definitely learnt to experiment both on and off the stage. It wasn’t always like this for me though, a few years back I did really struggle to wear anything that may draw attention and lived in black. But now, wearing bright, sassy and crazy outfit combos helps me feel dressed to perform.

I love being part of The Northernettes because we are all so different style wise.  Sophie May loves the enchantment of the likes of Stevie Nicks – her perfect accessory would be a feather tambourine.  Katie is a seventies hippy trippin dream child and would be lost without her face glitter.  I love the class of the 50s and the sassiness of the 60s and couldn’t imagine a wardrobe without colour.  The three of us know each other’s styles so well and I often get a text from Katie saying she has found something cute for me on her travels (she last found me a turquoise vintage wiggle dress!) and of course we are tied together by our love for vintage.

Sophie May

In her own words – Sophie May “ I don’t really have a style tip as such, I just experiment and hope for the best but always make everything up as you go along!”

Georgia

In her own words – Georgia “What matters to me about style is that you should OWN IT with everything you have – never be afraid of being who you are. Diversity is what brings colour to the table”

Katie

In her own words – Katie “My style tip is definitely don’t look in the mirror for too long! Look long enough to feel groovy then scarper off out!”
