Rimmel London 60 Seconds Nail Polish in Rita’s Black Review

A lot of beauty bloggers highly rate Rimmel London Nail polishes which is nice to see as an affordable high street brand. For me, good black Nail Polish is hard to come by yet it’s such a staple in so many nail polish collections. As a teenager I always bought black nail polish from market stalls, but since Rimmel has such great reviews I decided to give Rita’s Black a try.

The packaging is okay, it’s smaller than some of my other polishes by the likes of Barry M and the rounded packaging means it’s not quite as easy to store. I will be honest, I find the packaging a little bland though it does it’s job. The price of these polishes is £2.99 which is very affordable so I can forgive the packaging.

The product is described as the following from Superdrug’s website, this polish is part of Rita Ora’s nail polish collection:

Nail the noir look with the pitch-black of Rita’s black, now a basic.
You’ll be on your way in no time, thanks to 3 in 1 Colour Technology that delivers flawless colour along with a base coat and glossy top coat — all in one stroke. And it dries in under a minute! If you love to change your polish with your mood, 60 Seconds Super Shine is ideal. So it’s drama you’re after? Rita’s Black from Rimmel London delivers all you can handle!. Long lasting 60 Seconds Super Shine resists chips and fading for up to 10 days.”

Starting with the brush, I do really like it. This is a flat, wide brush which makes it much easier to cover the whole nail in less strokes so I definitely appreciate that. I did use to prefer the standard rounded brushes but now my nails are longer I find the flatter, wider brushes are much easier to use and more convenient so point for the brush!

Onto the colour and the formula, there’s no denying that this is black but the finish is not as glossy as some of the other polishes I have tried. Though this does initially look glossy when it has first been applied, I did notice that the polish loses it’s shine and doesn’t look as glossy but isn’t matte it’s almost like a duller version of a satin finish.

(Rita’s Black when first applied).

An interesting claim to these polishes is that they dry within sixty seconds. I did notice that this dried quicker than a gel nail polish however, I don’t think that this does fully dry down in sixty seconds, I have this on and thought it was dry and ended up smudging this so I don’t agree with the product claim. Truthfully, I didn’t notice anything particular about the drying time.

The formula is okay, I mean this works, and two to three coats give you maximum opacity but as mentioned, the shine doesn’t stay on the nails and I did find that this chipped quickly. In terms of the longevity, I don’t think this polish is amazing for that, within a couple of hours I had a very small amount of tipwear which was slightly more obvious on day two, by the third day I had noticeable chipping and by day five this was fully chipped and looked like this.

Overall, this polish is okay but it’s nothing astounding. I do feel that the likes of Barry M provide tough competition for affordable nail polishes so this could be better than it is, especially if it has a celebrity endorsement. This does do it’s job but there wasn’t anything particularly impressive so I probably wouldn’t repurchase or recommend.

The Rimmel London 60 Seconds Nail Polish in Rita’s Black is available from Superdrug for £2.99.
