Toni and Guy Prep Heat Protection Mist Review

I’ll admit, Heat Protection Sprays are not a priority of mine despite using heat on my hair on an almost daily basis – terrible I know. The thing is, I’ve never noticed heat protection sprays really do much for my hair, how do you really tell if they work? Despite feeling this way, I needed to pick up some new haircare so ended up throwing this into my basket as well. Here’s my thoughts.

Starting with the packaging, to be honest I’m not massively keen, the white and the black is iconic for Toni and Guy but a little dull to be and while the handle and nozzle is really easy to use, the lack of lid and bulky top makes it more difficult to store than it needs to be. Price point is okay, its £7.75 which is reasonable for a high street product.

Toni and Guy describe this product as the following:
Heat Protection Mist for a smooth and prepped finish. Conditioning formula helps protect against damage and breakage caused by heat styling. Spray evenly over towel-dried hair and comb through. Top up in between blow-drying and using straightening irons by spritzing lightly over dry hair.

When I spray this I find that the spray is quite powerful but it’s also quite fine which make sit very easy to cover the hair with. It is a very wet spray so I like to use this before blow drying my hair but I wouldn’t want to use it before straightening just as I always feel that my straighteners shouldn’t sizzle on my hair!

The smell is not something I’m overly keen on, it’s really hard to describe but it’s fairly strong and I just think that there are probably nice scents out there. I don’t absolutely loathe it before I will admit there’s better smells and I don’t enjoy it.

So how does it perform? Well my hair isn’t damaged at the moment so I’m not as risk of it breaking but I do find that my hair is less static and seems to be a tad glossier as well. It has hard for me to measure the effectiveness since my hair is naturally shiny but my hair feels less dry after I use this which makes me think that it is helping to prevent damage.

Would I repurchase? Probably not in honesty, I think it works fine as a a heat protection spray but the bulky packaging and scent is off putting to me so I think I’d be likely to try a different brand.

The Toni & Guy Heat Protection Spray is available from Superdrug for £7.75.
