Best in Beauty 2017

Another year has rolled around or near enough it’s the 29th today (and my birthday) so I thought I’d share my very best in beauty. This year was tough, there’s only a couple of products that are repeats from last year but this year it’s been tough to narrow it down to only one per category. It’s been a great year for trying new products, hopefully 2018 will prove to be just as fab! Without further ado here’s my best in beauty 2017.

Cleanser – Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish

Toner – Superdrug Vitamin E Hydrating Mist
Not your usual toner but I use this directly after a cleanse to add some moisture back into my Skin. This smells lovely and the vitamin E brightens and hydrates my skin.
Moisturiser –  Eve Taylor C+ Brightening Moisturiser
I wasn’t enamoured with most of the Eve Taylor products I tried but this really impressed me. It smells like orange and adds the most beautiful radiant veil to the skin, I was blown away.
Serum – Vichy Aqualia Thermale Dynamic Serum
My serum of the year, I believe I still need to review this fully but this is wonderful. It leaves my skin hydrated and soft, it absorbs easily and it’s pleasant to apply, a worthy winner.
Brows – Anastasia Dipbrow Pomade
I don’t always use cream products for my brows but this year I moved onto the Anastasia Dipbrow Pomade and I’m impressed. This is a tad dark for me but I love how it makes my brows look instantly bolder and more striking, the formula is wonderfully creamy and doesn’t leave my brows crispy.
Eyeshadow Palette – Urban Decay Wende’s Contraband Palette
Not a palette that I’ve raved about but a worthy addition to my collection. This has some really striking shades and all of them are super pigmented. I really like this.
Single Eyeshadow – Urban Decay Eyeshadow in Tonic
This is one of the most striking eyeshadows I’ve tried this year, it appears lilac but has a stunning blue shift that I love. The texture and finish are both gorgeous, it’s a lovely one for spring!
Mascara – Eyeko Black Magic Mascara
I tried this mascara at the beginning of the year and was super impressed. I’ve not had a ton of mascara favourites in 2017 but I did like this, it’s very black and it adds a lot of volume.
Liquid Liner – Seventeen High Drama Liquid Liner
I’ve started getting into liquid liner and since practising I’ve got a lot better at it. I used to hate liquid liner but this Seventeen one is lovely, it’s black, it stays on and doesn’t flake plus even a noob like me can use it. The affordable price also helps.
Eyeliner – Urban Decay 24/7 Glide On Eye Pencil in Perversion
Quite possibly the blackest pencil liner I’ve tried. I’m also in love with the creamy texture that true to it’s name, glides onto the waterline and tightline. It also stays put and doesn’t drop and run like so many other pencil liners making it worth the extra pennies.
Primer – L’oreal Lumi Magique Primer
I only tried this over the past couple of months but this has seriously impressed me. It smells lovely, has a silky texture and it makes my skin look so much more radiant without looking glittery. Great under foundation for a lit from within look.
Foundation – Estee Lauder Doublewear Foundation
Another favourite from 2017 but again I’m yet to find a foundation that stays in place all day, matches my skin tone and cover my redness and this does a stellar job. I don’t usually go for full coverage but this does the trick covering everything I need and staying on from 6.30am until 5.30pm.
Bronzer – Benefit Hoola Bronzer
I tried this earlier in the year as I got one of the Benefit Real Cheeky Party Sets. This bronzer works wonders it’s pigmented and neither too muddy nor too pale nor too orange toned. It is great for contouring due to the matte finish and has a silky texture – I’m very impressed.
Liquid Highlighter – Nars Illuminator in Copacabana
Liquid highlighters are not my go-to however, the Nars Illuminator in Copacabana is just stunning. I love how this icy pink makes my cheekbones look and the formula is as light as air. This has a beautiful sheen to it and just looks amazing on the skin.
Cream Blush – MUA Luxe Whipped Blusher in Ritzy
This was a close call between this blusher on the No7 Vital Brights Blush in Blossoming Pink. What I love about this is how blendable it is and how it sheers out on the skin. In the pan this looks like a scary fuchsia however, on the skin you can blend it out to create a watercolour flush to the cheeks it’s stunning.
Powder Blusher –  Bourjois Little Round Blush Pot in Rose de Jaspe
I can see why this is a cult product, I tried it a few months ago and was so impressed with the beautiful pink shade and gold shimmer combination. This looks incredibly youthful and brightening on the cheeks without looking heavy or fake. It’s a decent price and the packaging is cute yet functional.
Powder – No7 Crème Touch Powder
I stopped using powder after realising that it was making my makeup look cakey. Having said that, I tried this one and was impressed at how it set my makeup and increased the longevity without clinging to dry patches or breaking up. Despite not being translucent this is undetectable on my skin and sets everything into place.
Lip Balm – Balance Me Hit of Glamour Tinted Lip Balm
Not bad for a magazine freebie! The mint taste to this is so cooling on the lips and the formula manages to be smooth and non sticky. The tint is great for adding a little something to the lips so you can stay hydrated with a low maintenance lip.
Lip Liner – Rimmel London East End Snob
Everyone was raving about overdrawn lips and so I decided to give lip liner a try myself. East End Snob is one of those that can be applied all over the lips or just used to overdraw. I liked to wear this under lipstick or as a colour in it’s own right and I loved the shade and the creamy formula, plus the price is super low.
Lipgloss – Nyx Intense Butter Gloss in Spice Cake
It’s not often I reach for a gloss but Spice Cake is such a great alternative to lipstick at this time of the year. The colour looks very autumnal and plummy without being too dark and the formula means that you can have rich colour and a smooth non drying texture without the stickiness, I really rate this.
Lipstick:  MAC Lipstick in Brave
I do love a good muted pink for daywear on the lips and this year MAC’s Brave stole the show. I actually used this up completely and fell in love with the soft pink shade and satin finish on my lips, really impressive.
Liquid Lipstick – Body Shop Matte Lip Liquid in Goa Magnolia
I do love a liquid lipstick but I can’t stand those ones that suck the life out of your lips and end up going flakey (I’m looking at you LA Splash). I picked this one up on my birthday last year and I fell in love upon first application. True to it’s name it has a matte finish plus the raspberry shade also smells like sweets. Bonus points for the velvety non-drying texture.
Nails –Kiko Nail Lacquer in 530
I tried a few Kiko polishes without being too impressed but 530 is such a game changer. This turquoise shimmery polish shot through with gold is the very definition of mermaid nails. This applies like a dream, dries quickly, is opaque and lasts for days all for the price of under ten pounds. A worthy winner this really took precedence in my nail collection.
Shower Cream – Lush Yuzu and Cocoa Shower Cream
I tried this at the beginning of the year and a love affair began. This smells amazing (like chocolate orange) and in true Lush style has a blend of oils and butters that leaves the skin feeling softer than ever before. Easy to use, smells great and exceeds expectations, I’d definitely repurchase.
Hand Cream – Soap and Glory Hand Dream Super Cream
Sadly I think that this has been discontinued but it’s currently my hand cream of choice. This hydrates the hands, smells lovely like warm vanilla or something similar, plus it doesn’t leave a sticky, greasy residue on my hands which is so important due to the fast absorption. I much prefer this over Hand Food, thankfully the large tube will last me a while!
Perfume – Ghost Eclipse Perfume
I adore this perfume, fruity, yet sweet and playful it’s a great all year round fragrance. I’ve had this before and I actually repurchased it because I loved it so much which is super rare for me, if you love fruity scents and haven’t tried this yet go buy it right now!
Candle – WoodWick Trilogy Candle in Exotic Spices
Up until I tried this my go-to candles were always Yankee but man this smells delicious! Any candle that combines coffee, cinnamon and rum in one delicious candle is a winner plus the features a wooden wick that crackles, I’ve obsessed!

That concludes my favourites for this year, I hope you all had a fantastic 2017 and I also hope that 2018 is a fantastic year for you all!
