I’ve been excited to try this product for a while I mean I love eyeliners, I love Illamasqua and I love sky blue so it had to be a match made in heaven right? I will admit that on workdays I tend to use more of a neutral palette but weekends are for colour and I was so excited to give this a shot, here’s my thoughts.

In terms of the packaging it’s quite nice, I don’t think you can do much with a pencil especially one that isn’t plastic coated. I like the fact this comes in a sleek thin box as it makes it feel much more luxurious. I also like the black with the Illamasqua logo. The tip reminds me of old school pencil crayons. These liners are definitely high end I believe I bought this one for £14.50 but it now retails for £16.00.

Illamasqua describe their Colouring Eye Pencils as the following:
“Create long-lasting definition with the versatile, colour-intense Colouring Pencil. Easily blendable, the creamy texture glides over skin. Use as an eyeliner, define the eye crease, or blend across the entire lid using an Illamasqua Brush to create a variety of looks.”

Starting with the colour, this is super bright which I love. It’s a stunning sky blue that has a vibrant pigmentation and a rich finish, you’ll definitely turn heads with this one and can use it fully across the lid for a bold look or just on the lash liner for a pop of colour.

The formula is an unusual one, typically I find Illamasqua products (lipsticks, liners etc) lean on the dryer side, I don’t think I’ve ever had a product that has been greasy or slippy and I think the drier texture is what makes them last so long. Having said that, this does also have a lot of drag so it’s great for the lid and lash line but the colour doesn’t translate onto the waterline at all.

When applying this to the lid, it was relatively easy, since this is new the tip was sharp allowing me to gain a precise line however, this isn’t self sharpening and it is going to be difficult to use when it blunts.

This did stay on my lids for a few hours but I also found that when applied alongside eyeshadow it did get a very scaly texture which isn’t great. I have tried blending this fully, it’s not the creamiest of liners so I did worry that it could crumble or break apart.

Overall, this is nice, not one for every day but one I’ll use when I can, I don’t think I’d repurchase as this is more of a novelty item rather than something I’d wear on a daily basis. In terms of recommendations if you are looking for a bright blue liner then absolutely but if you are hoping for something a little creamier than I’d maybe look elsewhere.
