What Month Do Babies Stop Teething?

Tags: teething baby

Teething is one of those heart-wrenching milestones in a baby’s life. All parents know how hard it is to see their little angel distressed, crying and in pain, when those first tiny teeth start to grow in.

Have you ever wondered, what month do babies stop teething?

Well, we will tell explain teething in further detail in this article, and answer any questions you may have on this topic.

How do you know when a baby is teething?

Teething is the process where a baby’s first teeth come through their gum line.

Usually, babies begin teething around the age of 6 months. In some cases, babies are born with their first tooth; while others start teething as early as 3 months old.

Look out for these signs, which indicate that your baby has started teething:

  • Baby’s gums are sore, tender and red, where the tooth is coming through
  • Baby has a mild temperature of less than 38C
  • Baby has one flushed cheek
  • Baby has a rash on their face
  • Baby keeps bringing their hands to their mouth
  • Baby is rubbing their cheeks or ear
  • Baby is dribbling and drooling more than usual
  • Baby is sucking, gnawing and chewing on things a lot
  • Baby is not sleeping very well
  • Baby is more fretful than usual
  • Baby has a decreased appetite
  • Baby has a runny nose

If you have any concerns about your baby’s health while they are teething, or any other symptoms are present, such as fever, call the NHS on 111 or use their online service, or contact a GP as soon as possible.

What month do babies stop teething?

Baby teeth are temporary, as they will eventually fall out and be replaced by permanent teeth.

So, what month do babies stop teething?

The teething process should end by the time the child reaches their third birthday. This is usually at around 25 to 33 months, which is when they should have all 20 baby teeth.

Your child’s first set of molars will come in when they reach 6 to 7 years old, while the second set come in at around 12 or 13 years old.

What are teething accessories?

Teething accessories are toys, rattles, rings, or jewellery pieces that are designed to alleviate a baby’s teething pain.

The baby sucks and chews on the teething accessory, which provides comfort and relief for the baby’s inflamed gums, during the painful process of teething.

Teething jewellery is not just a chewing aid for your baby: they are also an excellent distraction tool! Simply wave the teether in front of your baby’s eyes, and they will become focused on the colours, movement and noise, which will help them become less wriggly and irritable during breastfeeding or feeding.

At Mama Jewels, we sell high-quality Teething Jewellery which both you and your little angel will benefit from.

Our Teething Jewellery minimise the discomfort that normally comes with tooth eruption. Made from CE-approved non-toxic silicone elements that are food-grade and BPA-free, and strength-tested, our chewing aids are safe for those tiny hands and easy to keep hygienically clean.

We also sell Baby Teething Toys and Baby Teething Gift sets, which make the perfect present for the little one. Teething toys can be put in the fridge to help soothe swollen and sore gums, while your baby chomps on them.

Is teething jewellery safe?

At Mama Jewels, our teething accessories meet EU product safety requirements. We carefully check all our products to guarantee that they are free from toxic materials and chemicals like BPA, PVC and phthalates. Our jewellery doesn’t contain any heavy metals, lead or cadmium.

Always supervise your baby for the entire time they use a teething product. Additionally, never put a teething necklace around a baby’s neck: it should be worn by an adult instead.

Our teething jewellery is designed to be chewable, so it meets your child’s teething needs. From the age of 3 months, children start grabbing items within reach and chewing on them. They like placing objects inside their mouths because it allows them to explore the world around them, while it also introduces them to new germs, which helps them build their immune system.

How can I soothe my teething baby?

  • It can be hard to stick to your regular night-time routine with the baby, but try and keep their sleep patterns as regular as you can.
  • Start the bedtime routine earlier than normal if your baby has had a particularly rough day.
  • Give the baby a teething toy, which can be stored in the fridge, to reduce swelling of the gums.
  • With a clean finger, massage your baby’s gums gently.
  • Put on a white noise machine as the baby falls asleep, to redirect their attention elsewhere.
  • Freeze a soft washcloth and let your baby chew on it. Ensure there are no rips or lose strings in the washcloth.
  • Apply a baby teething gel to the baby’s sore gums, but never more than prescribed on the packet instructions. Too much teething gel can be toxic and harmful for the baby’s health.

  • Fill a baby bottle with water and freeze it. Let your baby chew on the bottle nipple.
  • Breastfeeding can help soothe the baby’s gums.
  • Buy unsweetened teething biscuits for your baby to eat, but only if the baby is already eating solid foods.
  • Chewing on a slice of peeled cucumber can relieve pain for a teething baby, but only if your baby is old enough to eat solid foods, and make sure you supervise the baby when they do this.
  • Clean and dry all teething toys regularly, to get rid of the bacteria.
  • Give the baby a lovely warm bath, to distract their mind and help settle them to sleep.
  • Encourage self-settling, so that the baby doesn’t always need to rely on mum or dad to calm down. You can do this by letting the baby cry himself to sleep, or singing a lullaby as he falls asleep.
  • Stay calm and be patient. Teething is an incredibly challenging time for both the baby and parents; but it is only a temporary process, so it will pass soon.
  • Reassure your baby with lots of cuddles and soothing words.
  • Speak to your doctor if the baby is in severe pain.
  • Keep a bib underneath the baby’s chin, to stop drool from collecting on their body or clothes and irritating their skin.
  • Wipe the baby’s face and chin often, to prevent them from developing a rash from saliva.
  • Be aware of nappy rash, because an increase in saliva production during teething can lead to more acidity in the baby’s urine and faeces.
