What Is a Teething Bracelet?

Teething is an important milestone in your little baby’s life. The Teething process differs from baby to baby. But your baby will get their first tooth by their first birthday. The majority of babies start teething at around 6 to 12 months, but some babies are born with their first teeth.

The first teeth to appear are usually the two bottom front teeth, known as the central incisors.

When a baby’s teeth come in, it can cause them to feel discomfort and pain. Most parents report that teething pain is worst when their child’s molars grow in.

Teething can make a baby a lot more fussy and irritable than usual. The baby might wake up in screaming pain, which is heart-wrenching for all parents to see their little one in distress. That’s why we have written an article covering what is a Teething Bracelet.

Fortunately, there are steps you can take to help relieve your baby of the stress of teething.

Read on below to find out more about teething and what you can do to help your baby.

How do you know when a baby is teething?

Look out for these signs of teething:

  • Baby’s gum is sore and red where the tooth is coming through
  • Baby has a mild temperature of less than 38C
  • Baby has one flushed cheek
  • Baby has a rash on their face
  • Baby is rubbing their ear
  • Baby is dribbling and drooling more than usual
  • Baby is gnawing and chewing on things a lot
  • Baby is more fretful than usual
  • Baby is not sleeping very well
  • Baby has a decreased appetite

If you have any concerns about your baby’s health while they are teething, or any other symptoms are present, such as fever, call the NHS on 111 or use their online service, or contact a GP.

What is a teething bracelet?

A teething bracelet is made of amber, wood, marble or silicone. They are designed to help ease a baby’s teething pain. The baby sucks on the teething bracelet, which is a unique and handy pain-relieving solution to provide comfort during the teething process.

At Mama Jewels, we sell high-quality teething jewellery which both you and your little angel will benefit from.

Our teething jewellery products minimise the discomfort that normally comes with tooth eruption. Made from CE-approved non-toxic silicone elements that are food-grade and BPA-free, and strength-tested, our chewing aids are safe for those tiny hands and easy to keep hygienically clean.

Our teething bangle bracelet is made from high-quality food-grade silicone. Suitable to use from birth, the teething bangle bracelet comes in stylish gold, marble white, or rose gold.

We also sell baby teething toys and baby teething gift sets, which make the perfect present for the little one. Teething toys can be put in the fridge to help soothe swollen and sore gums while your baby chomps on them.

We understand that it’s not only mums who enjoy wearing jewellery, so we also sell baby-proof jewellery for new dads!

Are teething bracelets safe?

Yes, you will not have to worry about your baby accidentally swallowing our teething accessories if they place a teething bracelet or necklace in their mouth.

Our teething jewellery is designed to be chewable, so it meets your child’s teething needs. From the age of 3 months, children start grabbing items within reach and chewing on them. They like placing things inside their mouths because it allows them to explore the world around them and helps them build their immune system.

We offer the handiest teething jewellery in the UK to ensure not only peace-of-mind behaviour but also comfort for swollen gums. It’s gaining popularity at breakneck speed and has already helped many mums out there

Our jewellery pieces meet EU product safety requirements. We carefully check all our products to guarantee that they are free from toxic materials and chemicals like BPA, PVC and phthalates. Our jewellery doesn’t contain any heavy metals, lead or cadmium.

What are the benefits of teething bracelets?

  • Relieves the baby’s swollen and aching gums.
  • Form of self-soothing for the baby.
  • Quickly distracts the baby when he or she is fussy or crying, so it will help them calm down.
  • The different textures and shapes of the teething bracelet improve tactile learning and develop the baby’s motor skills.
  • Looks elegant on the parent’s wrist, without feeling tight.
  • Stops the baby from chewing on other objects which could lead to self-injury or choking.

How can I keep my baby safe while he is using a teething bracelet or teething necklace?

  • Always supervise your baby when he is using a teething bracelet or teething necklace.
  • If the baby destroys a teething necklace or bracelet, immediately pick up all the beads and thread and throw them away.
  • Make sure there are no loose beads or threads in your baby’s mouth or hands, as these present a choking hazard.
  • Do not paint over the beads of teething jewellery with nail polish, as the chemicals inside nail polish will be harmful to your baby.

Can babies wear teething bracelets and teething necklaces to bed?

No, do not let your baby chew on a teething accessory at night time when they go to sleep. Always monitor your child closely when they play with a teething bracelet or teething necklace.

Can I give my own bracelets and necklaces to my baby?

Absolutely not. You must never, under any circumstances, allow your baby to play with items from your own jewellery collection which are not designed for teething.

Children may be exposed to lead if they suck on metallic jewellery, or accidentally ingest it.

Exposure to lead can lead to serious health problems including:

  • behavioural problems
  • learning disabilities
  • joint and muscle weakness
  • anaemia
  • organ failure
  • and even death

Lead is toxic to everyone, but children under 6 years old are at the greatest risk for problems from it because their bodies absorb lead more easily than those of older kids and adults.

How can I soothe my teething baby naturally?

  • Massage the baby’s face and gums gently with your finger, particularly before feeds. Make sure your hands are clean. Stop massaging if the baby starts screaming or crying even more.
  • Freeze a teething toy and allow the baby to chew on it, to soothe inflamed gums.
  • Try an over-the-counter teething gel or tablet. Use the smallest amounts as possible, in accordance with the packet instructions.
  • Freeze a soft washcloth and let your baby chew on it. Ensure there are no rips or lose strings in the washcloth.
  • Fill a baby bottle with water and freeze it. Let your baby chew on the bottle nipple.
  • Make your own ice lolly from a natural, organic fruit juice. The cold temperature can soothe gum pain.
  • Breastfeeding can help soothe the baby’s gums.
  • Buy teething biscuits for your baby to eat, but only if the baby is already eating solid foods.
  • Give your baby a lovely warm bath, to distract their mind.
  • Speak to your doctor if the baby is in severe pain and no remedy is providing relief.
  • Clean and dry all teething toys regularly to get rid of the bacteria.
  • Wipe the baby’s face and chin often, to prevent them from developing a rash from saliva.
  • Be aware of nappy rash, because an increase in saliva production during teething can lead to more acidity in the baby’s urine and faeces.

How can I soothe my teething baby at night?

  • It can be hard to stick to your regular nighttime routine with the baby, but try and keep their sleep patterns as regular as you can.
  • Start the bedtime routine earlier than normal if your baby has had a particularly rough day.
  • Put on a white noise machine as the baby falls asleep to redirect their attention elsewhere.
  • Encourage self-settling, so that the baby doesn’t always need to rely on mum or dad to calm down. You can do this by letting the baby cry himself to sleep, or singing a lullaby as he falls asleep.
  • Stay calm and be patient. Teething is an incredibly challenging time for both the baby and parents, but it is only a temporary process, so it will pass soon.
  • Reassure your baby with lots of cuddles and soothing words.

What should I NOT do to soothe my teething baby?

  • Do not stick a toothbrush inside the baby’s mouth. The harsh bristles can irritate the baby’s swollen gums further.
  • Never apply more toothing gel inside the baby’s mouth than the instructions specify. Too much teething gel can be toxic for the baby and make them very ill.

When do babies stop teething?

The teething process should end by the time the child reaches their third birthday. This is when they should have all 20 baby teeth.
