I started a new job the other day and was so excited that I had left the previous horrid place.  To be quite frank the previous place was the worst culture I had ever worked in. It didn't start this way, it was a happy vibrant place, everyone worked to help each other, but over a period of 5 years and 10 redundancies later, with three CEO's coming and going. It really was going backwards. So with the notice given to me as  HR Manager, I skipped out the door and had a delightful and relaxing three weeks off to enjoy life.

Around my fourth week,  I was really happy to be given a temp job that will last for a while and funny enough walked into a new job which was the place I walked out of five years ago. I've been told they call people like me a "Boomerang Employee".

At first the amount of people that were saying, "Welcome Back", " So great to see you again", "OMG you are back with hugs and smiles", to some saying, "How long has it been", and "Why did you leave in the first place". It was all fairly positive and lots of welcomes and smiles, and waves. I had a week of feeling on top of the world and was lovely to know I was missed. Not that it bothered me but was anxious to see if there were any changes and the first week I was honestly feeling chuffed.

Then comes yesterday - Friday. I started to notice some differences. Maybe it is me after all.
The slight rolling of eyes when I asked questions as it has been a while and some systems , processes have changed, to noticing some people within the office asking the group out for lunch and not offering me "Would you like to join us". Other noticeable expressions coming from the same person three times, "Oh but your a temp, your not allowed to have that access"... When clearly I needed it for my job. I then questioned, Why did i come back. They are clearly not happy about my return. I must admit at this stage, I had heard that they were going through a restructure and they were showing all the signs of being fearful about their jobs. The fact that the ones that are keeping me at distance, are the same ones that didn't join me on my last day for a farewell.

I am not a nasty person at all, but am loving being back and working again, feeling refreshed.
It is true what they say though, It is hard to keep a warm heart in a cold world but as well Karma is a bitch and I am going to have fun with this. :D
