Halloween Makeup Tutorial: Jack-O-Lantern Makeup

The first ever post on this blog was a Halloween makeup tutorial showing an iconic Dia De Los Muertos Sugar Skull look. 5 years later on this blog birthday – keeping this great halloween tradition alive, – I’ve created a spooky jack-o-lantern makeup look. What makes this look even more special is the fact that I only used organic makeup products to create it!

You might know that I’m the official makeup artist (or beauty advisor) for INIKA in Hungary. When I was thinking about this years Halloween look, I knew I wanted to only use natural makeup products, so I checked my makeup kit, and brought this pumpkin lantern to life.

Let’ s see the process step-by-step and the list of the INIKA products I’ve used:

I. Prepping is key for this look, so make sure you use a well moisturizing primer and a hydrating lipbalm, to create the perfect “canvas” for the look.

II. I used the INIKA Organic Liquid Mineral Foundation in the shade Cream, to cover my face, my lips and one of my eyebrows.

III. Sharpen your favourite black eyeliner and create the broken lines for the pumpkin face. It’s important to leave out half of your lip and half of your eye on the opposite side.

IV. Draw the triangle eyes, and the mouth and fill it with colour. Make sure your black eye pencil is always sharp!

V. Once the main features are on, you can start to apply the orange colour to the middle part. For that I used the famous INIKA Day To Night Palette (shade Sunset) and an INIKA Vegan Concealer Brush to cover a big area faster. I dampened the end of my brush and used the eyeshadow wet, so it gave more colour. Be careful around the black parts and use a smaller brush to fill the spaces close to the black lines.

VI. Grab a dark brown eyeliner and draw the pumpkin parts.Start in the middle and draw them accordingly. Once done, pick a soft eyeshadow brush and blend the lines a bit so they’ll look more like a shadow than a harsh line.

VII. It’s time to make the dark parts really contrasting, so get your blackest black eyeliner (I used INIKA’s Organic Liquid Eyeliner) and draw over the original lines. If you’d like you can give extra features and details to your look, adding more break lines, and with drawing the triangle nose.

VIII-IX. The face paint part is done, now only some fine tuning is missing. Paint the “half-eye” and the “half-lip” just like you would do for any parties. I created a golden brown smokey eye look using the INIKA Pressed Mineral Eyeshadow Duo in Gold Oyster) , added some copper lipgloss ( INIKA Lip Glaze in Cappuccino ) and some definition to my cheekbones with the new INIKA Baked Contour Duo in Teak.

What do you think about this look? What was your pick for Halloween 2018?
