Happy Halloween!!! 💀👻🎃🕸👽 I haven’t Posted in a while because October has been so HECTIC. I hope this costume makes up for my absence. Any guess as to who Kristopher and I are supposed to be?
On November 15, 1966 the small town of Point Pleasant, West Virginia was shook by the news that an 8-foot-tall winged creature with glowing red eyes had been terrorizing people nearby at an abandoned TNT area. Over the following year, numerous reports were made by people who claimed to have seen the same creature hanging out around the outskirts of town. Real life Men in Black were said to have visited Point Pleasant to investigate the sightings, along with an odd, tall grinning man known as Indrid Cold. No one was actually harmed during any of this and the events halted after the collapse of the Silver Bridge. These days, on the third weekend of every September, you can visit the annual Mothman Festival, during which visitors attend events such as “guest speakers, vendor exhibits, a Mothman pancake eating contest, and hayride tours focusing on the notable areas of Point Pleasant.” (x)
What do you make of these stories? Had you heard of Mothman before? He is my absolute favorite cryptid! I think I first heard about him on the Travel Channel, back in the early-2000s, before the movie came out. And I was happy to dig deeper into the legend with the recent documentary Eyes of the Mothman. I can’t get enough! Honestly, the stories are silly until you start thinking about them at night, in the dark. Can you imagine seeing him in real life? Terrifying.
