Kanchipuram sarees and Dhoti: today’s world of fashion

Every birthplace of every civilization in India has a rich culture and background when it comes to clothing. With the changes in the modern world, there are a few flexibilities and adjustments that are seen in the Indian line of fashion. India is country that is rich and colorful and has represented various clothes from different states. Fashion and traditions are a blend of the Indian men’s wear. Men and women have shifted to wearing both western form of clothes ever since the British left India. Every country has it’s specific costumes that are seen with the geographical conditions that come into play.

Indian costumes are a true mirage of every color found in the Indian subcontinent. Ordinary Indian man has always felt comfortable and safe in his traditional and ethnic dhoti which is a long lungi that covers a large portion of the legs. Traditional sherwanis were the attire for the royal kings. It fits perfectly against the body. The simple coat is open from the front with buttons and below the sherwani, men have often worn a churidar to cover the lower half of their body. The dress has a wide opening on top and thin around the ankles. The simple dress looks neat and graceful on a man.

Indian men are also known to wear lungi’s in most parts of the cities or countries. The lungi is wrapped around the waist and is worn inside the house. Men these days have gone through major transformations and the Indo western dresses are huge in demand. With the change in lifestyle, shirts and pants are changed with simple dhotis and kurtas. Women in the South have stuck to wearing Kanchipuram Sarees for every wedding or occasion celebrated. People in the rural areas especially the villages are trying to keep themselves abreast of the latest fashions and are often seen trying to copy what the urban men wear.

Adjusting to the Western look, the traditional men’s wear has been year marked by every designer. Designers have tried tampering with the Indian look and have been trying to merge it with the western fashion line. Sportsmen or women have a separate dress code according to the sport they play. When the summers arrive, the round neck T-shirt comes into fashion and is created in a variety of color combinations. It’s always interesting to see the Indian fashion change with every upcoming season.
