Project Me Time: How To Relax On Holiday

I close my eyes and I can feel the warm breeze on my face, I can smell sea in the air and taste salt on my lips, if only I was still in Croatia. My life is fully back to normal now, though I’m fully rested and have my memories with me at all time. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my Holiday and came back rested and full of inspiration. I’ve done my holidays differently this year and decided to write a little guide on how to relax on holiday so we can all be ready to get back to our day to day lives. Are you ready?

My Story: How to relax on holiday

It was early in the Morning and we were both awaken by storm. In fact, it was too early in the morning as we were woken up even before the usual 6am church bells went off. Slowly waking up, we were listening to its distant thunders.

These were some real sturdy thunders, with summer rain drumming on the roof with a force. We both just smiled at each other and shuffled back into our duvet kingdom. Maybe it could be called a Sunday cliché, but we both love lazy Sunday mornings. However Sundays can have a quiet promise of adventure, no matter where you are, be it at home or on holiday.

After a while, storm moves away and rain stops. It’s so quiet all of a sudden, only every now and then we get to witness that thunder, though quite far away from us now. Sun started to make its appearance, slowly peeking through clouds. Air was fresh, full of after rain characteristic.

Mornings are my favorite part of the day so I don’t mind waking up at this hour. I get to witness a birth of a new day.

It was at this point that we’d decided that lazing around was no longer for us and by the time the church bells started their morning wake up call, we were already jogging along the beach.

Perfection. Air was still nice and breezy, nothing too hot to try some sprints that always destroy my body and sometimes I think even my soul. But it felt good. We were not the only crazy runners at this forsaken hour, we met people from all over the world, who, like us, were too woken up by the storm and were too keen to get outside to enjoy every minute of the new day.

After a good run, we followed with a Sunday brunch on our sea view balcony, to complete the already perfect morning.  It was one of my favorite moments

Whilst sun was slowly awaking, we realised it was still too soon after the rain to go the beach so we decided to go pack essentials (passport and camera) and set off to the near town Omis. The town was nice and quiet, with tourist only just waking up. We enjoyed the empty streets and soon enough we got lost, getting deeper and deeper into this historical town. It was wonderful and at that point I realised how lucky I’m to be there and experience every minute.

We managed to find the most quirky local caffee that you can even imagine. We sat outside and ordered two double espressos – my morning obsession (as you can also read in my ‘Cofffee, because adulting is hard’ post). I can still remember ing the feeling of pure bliss, sipping on my coffee with a view at the local castle, built in high in rock mountains.

We all tend to Relax on my holiday in many different ways. I get tired and bumped down my everyday life and that’s why I always make sure I do relax on holiday as much as I can. (You can see my Croatian story on my Instagram!)

If you’re like me, have a look at my guide on how to relax on holiday my way.

Plan Trips

The best thing that can happen to you, sometimes, is to get lost in a new city. It can be breathtaking to discover new places with the unforgettable atmosphere you will not find anywhere in the world. Each town, mountain, lake has its own remarkable history and atmosphere, so let it surround you. It’s the best thing you can do on your holiday to relax and recharge.

Exercise

Very controversial but we loved getting up early in the morning to go jogging. We felt fresh, energised and generally happy and content. Of course it’s easier when you have a buddy to go with and share the moment with. We loved the moment we run along the coast and watch the sun climb over the mountain and lit up the beaches, one by one. By the time we got back the whole area was sun lit

Live in the Moment

Forget technology – at least for a few hours a day!

I’ve already mentioned technology and its impact on our lives in my ‘Learning to live in the moment‘ post. So I’m not going to repeat myself and bore you to death. Just put the phone down every now and then, switch the TV off and enjoy your free time with your friends and family. Spend some time living rather than scrolling through your Twitter feed….. even you bloggers!

Read a Book

For me, holiday is the perfect time to enjoy a good book and one of the most obvious tips on how to relax on holiday. It doesn’t have to be a hefty classic or full on drama. Even a cheesy romantic book can relax your mind and help to relieve from day to day stress. Get lost in new worlds and discover new opportunities any book will offer.

I dedicated my holiday to reading two of the best books I’ve read related to blogging world and I literally struggled to put them both down until I finished. As such, I carried my notepad with me everywhere to make notes. My mind was buzzing and my notepad is now full of ideas, so if you do decided to invest in good blogging books, it has to be those two to start with!

Get up early

You’d be surprised how much a morning can offer to you. We tend to get up early every holiday to make sure we don’t miss out on anything (let’s talk about FOMO, hey).

Every morning offers you something different, new experience, new atmosphere and new opportunities. A new day is born and with that moment I can feel the energy flowing through my veins.

Have an afternoon nap

Getting up early can be exhausting, I give you that. To make sure we stayed wide awake at night we would sneak for an afternoon nap. It was too hot at the beach anyway! I know it’s not always possible but I absolutely love 20-30 minutes afternoon nap. I always feel refreshed and ready to go.

I’ve been browsing my Croatia pictures as I’ve been uploading them onto Instagram and that’s when I was overwhelmed by the melancholy. All I wanted to do was to dive into that velvety sea in the heat and let it carry me on a lilo. I suddenly have an urge to taste freshly squeezed oranges mixed with ice whilst sat on the beach, especially now – sat in the office looking out of the window covered with thousands of little rain drops. Back to reality for Dash.

At least I have my memories that I’ll cherish for years to come, I came back relaxed, refreshed, ready to kick some ass.

How about you, what are your top tips to relax on holiday? What do you enjoy the most, is it a trip to mountains, sunbathing, sightseeing, or do you prefer adrenalin holiday?
