Five Steps to a Perfect Smokey Eye Makeup When You’re Crunched For Time

Smokey Eye is often touted as the perfect classic makeup for a Saturday Night Out. While it’s a popular makeup trend, a common complaint is that it takes too long to put on and achieving the perfect look isn’t always easy. However by following some simple guidelines and a little practice, you can get a captivating look in very little time.

Here are five steps to creating the perfect Smokey Eye makeup if you’re crunched for time.

Step 1: Before you do your eye makeup, it is important to start with your base. Apply an eye primer concealer all over your eyelid. This will help in canceling out any kind of pigmentation on your eyelid and hold your eyeshadow all day long.

The second most important part is to set your base very carefully with any loose powder or face powder of your choice otherwise you cannot blend your eyeshadow properly. Top off the excess powder so there is no fallout.

Step 2: Get your eyeshadow palette and begin applying your base eyeshadow along the top eyelid in a sweeping and circular motion. Start up from the lash line and work up to the crease.

If you are attempting to get a darker shade of smokey eye do not choose the darkest shade as your first base colour but use something lighter such as a charcoal grey shade. If you’re looking for added definition, use a pointed eyeshadow brush to apply the same eyeshadow colour along the lower lash line.

If you have hooded eyes open your eyes and look straight to the mirror and then apply your transition colour just above your crease line so it blends perfectly.

Step 3: Dip a brush into the darker smokey eyeshadow and tap off any excess product and apply it to your crease starting from the eye’s outer corner and three-fourths of the way into the crease. Use small circular motions when adding the product

Holding your brush straight to your crease line and keep it as low as possible because you don’t want the eyeshadow to go too high. If you apply the smokey eyeshadow too far up in the crease your eyes will resemble those of a panda.

If at all you make a mistake and your smokey eye looks overdone and heavy, use a clean brush to blend it in.

For creating dimension, take some colour which was used for the base and apply a tiny amount to the centre of the lid.

Step 4: To get the best smokey, sultry effect add some dark eyeliner. Depending on your preference, you can use a pencil or liquid eyeliner. Apply the eyeliner starting from the outer corner to the inside. If you want a tight-lined appearance, apply a pencil liner with a matte finish to your eye’s inner rims.

Step 5: The final step is to clean up your smokey look a little, as the application can get quite messy at times. Keep some makeup eraser handy for this purpose. Soak the makeup eraser in warm water and use it gently remove any fallout or excess makeup.

If you have a little more time, use a highlighter under the brow bone, above the crease colour for a clear colour transition. You can also touch up the inner corner of your eyes to give them an extra spark. Finally, apply your mascara and you’re done.
