5 Non Permanent Ways To Make Your Rental More Cosy

Moving into a Rental has made me realise how important it is to have a home environment that is comfy and cosy and completely you. Myself and Tom have worked really hard trying to make our first home exactly that - however, it can be hard in a rental when you are limited to what you can change!

I've been Living in our little rental for just over a month now and I've picked up a few tips along the way that have really made a difference to the look and feel of our home in the short space of time we've been here.

01: One of the first things we decided we wanted to do was to switch out the curtains. The landlord had provided us with some neutral coloured curtains but they just didn't really bring the room together. We picked up some relatively cheap, floor length curtains from Ikea. Although they needed to be altered slightly (thanks Nan!), we put a set downstairs in the Living Room and upstairs in the master bedroom. The deep orange colour not only matches our colour scheme perfectly, but also provides a cosy and comfy feel and I just love how they look against the cream walls.

02: The entire downstairs of our home has laminate wood flooring and so a rug was essential for us. Again, we picked this up from Ikea for a great price and this is one of those things that has the ability to pull the entire living room together. Not only does it save you from the super cold floor, but it also adds the perfect amount of comfort to the room. As the rug is in a deep orange again, the colour really pops against the wooden floor and furniture.

03: Before moving out, I had no clue about plants and really, how to keep anything green alive. Since moving out, I've ended up spending a small fortune on plants and I really love how they look in the house. By co-ordinating the planters with the room, it not only adds another decorative aspect, but also adds a little bit of greenery. I also really enjoy watching them grow and looking after them, so thats a huge perk too.

04: One of the presents that was bought for by family was an awesome lightbox from This Modern Life. This is one of my Favourite Things in my new home. I absolutely love that you can customise what is on the lightbox depending on mood and one of my favourite things is updating the saying. The style is awesome and because you can buy pastel, handwritten and basic letters, you can customise the box to match wherever it is going in your home.

05: I couldn't write this post without recommending the use of candles. Me and Tom have a lot of candles, but the majority of them are battery powered, just to give the glow of a Candle without using a candle. However, the one candle that we do have is a Yankee Candle and currently, I'm burning Vanilla Frosting. I love the fragrance and nothing beats coming into a room that smells of vanilla frosting and freshly baked cupcakes.
