Getting Ready For Christmas

Tags: christmas
With only a few days to go until Christmas, I've been thinking about whether I'm ready or not and what I've been doing to prepare myself for Christmas Day and the festivities to follow.

I've been reminiscing on the last few weeks and what I've been doing to get ready for Christmas. I've got all of my presents, they are all wrapped and in piles with Tom and his families tucked away into a sack ready for my second Christmas Day in the South. I've given my Mum the shopping list and she has bought all of the bits I need to cook the roast on Friday. All of the decorations are up, the food and alcohol has been bought and I've got my whole heap of Christmas jumpers ready to go.

However, there is something missing this year. In past years, I've finished university, come back to my hometown and have spent the run up to Christmas doing lots of festive things to get me feeling Christmassy. This year, I'm working up until Christmas Eve and although I totally don't mind this at all (I'm not moaning about not finishing early!), however, I just don't feel ready for Christmas. Although I know that everything is bought and wrapped and in reality, I am ready, it doesn't feel like it.

So far this year, the only Christmas films I've watched have been Polar Express and Home Alone - I haven't gotten round to watching Elf and The Holiday which are two of my absolute favourites at this time of year. It really is rubbish not feeling festive when everything around you is pointing to the fact that you should be feeling ready for Christmas. I've decided to start listening to Christmas music rather than just putting on my regular iPod playlist and to watch a Christmas film every night this week. Work has been crazy busy lately, so having some downtime watching some of my favourite Christmas films should be perfect. Hopefully it'll put me into the Christmas mood and I'll be counting down the days until the big man comes to visit!

Are you feeling festive? Let me know if you have any top tips for getting ready and getting in the mood for Christmas - I've still got a little bit of time before the big day to see if I can get myself feeling festive.
Do you feel ready for Christmas? Or do you need to pick up some last minute bits?
