Spunky Spring | 90s Trend Inspired Wishlist

When I first started to see the 90s Trend popping up all over the internet, I honestly had a pretty visceral and negative reaction.  I’m a 90s kid and as you can imagine, it brought back memories of trying to jump in on the platform sneakers trend and never quite getting it right (opting for neon green and pairing them with Winnie the Pooh boxer shorts was probably my first mistake). But the more I saw the more I’ve been roped in.  Theres something grungy yet playful about the clothes and makeup from that era, it’s almost tongue in cheek.  The chokers have also gotten a serious upgrade since the days of those plastic accordion things we used to wear…with plastic glitter butterfly clips…Jesus Christ as I type this I’m having second thoughts about this whole trend.  Abort abort!

I’m mostly joking.  I enjoy the spunky nature of 90s fashion and I’m definitely on board with a few of the trends for Spring so I put together a 90s trend wishlist for spring.  It is 100% free of butterfly clips.  Miss me with that shit TYSM.

  • MARC JACOBS CAT EYE SUNGLASSES // Ok so I saw these sunglasses online and I was dying for them.  I always love cat eye frames and I also love things that are a twist on a classic so this is really right up my alley.  The problem is I don’t really like to spend a lot on sunglasses unless I know I am going to have them for a really long time.  So I held off, and I’m glad I did because I found a nearly exact dupe on amazon for $9.99.  And that my dear friends is why we don’t impulse shop, mmkay?
  • MISFITS CROP TEE // Admittedly I own way too many Misfits tees, but in my defense they are one of my favorite bands…and none of the ones I have are cropped! I mean look how cute this one is.  Not to mention the fact that I was not confident enough to do crop tops in the 90s so I’m making up for lost time over here.
  • GEL LIP PATCH //  Strictly speaking this is not a 90s trend, but it totally reminds me of something they would have sold back then.  Remember those big wax candy lips?  Like that but beneficial instead of just a shitty inedible candy.
  • SNACKS NAMEPLATE RING //  Being from Queens and growing up in the 90s nameplate jewelry will always have a special place in my heart.  I remember when my dad got me my first nameplate necklace at Queens Center Mall.  Literally every girl in NYX had one growing up, you weren’t shit without a nameplate. Like do you even have a name if it’s not on your neck?  All those memories combined with the fact that snacks are pretty much my reason for waking up in the morning makes this one a no brainer for me.
  • URBAN DECAY VICE LIPSTICK TOPCOATS // The 90s were a glitter covered era, but at the time nobody was making long wearing formulas so it was a hot ass mess.  These glitter lipstick topcoats dry down and supposedly don’t feel gritty or heavy on the lips.  Like the 90s but better!  I ordered a couple from Sephora so I’ll report back my findings.
  • QUAY PARADISO SUNGLASSES //  These would look cool as hell with my jean jacket and the super sweet eyelashes pin I have from House of Lashes and one of those glitter topcoats!  Wow I’m really getting into the spirit of this.
  • NYX COSMIC METALS LIP CREAM // I have a few of these so I know I really like the formula.  It’s like a gel-gloss.  Smashbox and MakeupGeek both released similar products recently as well, but some of these NYX colors are giving me real deal 90s vibes.

Whew ok, 90s trend wishlist complete.  Are you guys on board with this trend?  What would you wear and what could you live without?
