2019

It's your life. Don't LET ANYONE MAKE YOU FEEL GUILTY FOR LIVING IT YOUR WAY.

At this time of year my timelines and social feeds are always saturated with the “new year, new me” jargon. I find the motivational Instagram captions and ambitious resolutions nauseating. Almost like we all feel the need to compete with each other. It’s so aggressive that I find myself feeling guilty for not making massive resolutions. Maybe I’m in a nice position that I can say I don’t want to change my life, just improve it.

This year I’m aiming for progress, not perfection. I’m not making any resolutions as such, I never really do. I realise that I cannot be a new person this time next year so I’m not aiming for perfection with resolutions like “See the world. Go to the gym 3 times a week. Stop spending irrational amounts of money on shoes and save for something more. Drink more water. Reduce the amount of pasta I consume. Stop swearing. Forgive." To hell with all of that. We’re alive and isn’t that enough. The things that really change our life’s and define a year for us are not the things we imagined on the 1st of January so why bother. This year I promise to stumble, to stumble through this life and live - say yes to more and be open to more experiences.

The one Conscious Effort I will be making this year is to get the most out of it. I mean that in the sense that I don’t feel the need to waste time. I will be making a conscious effort to surround myself with radiators in 2019 and not drains. It’s a theory I read about recently. Some people emit warmth and positivity, these are the radiators. The drains on the other hand, are the people that leave you feeling depleted. We can all think of the people in our lives who are the radiators and in 2019 those are the relationships I’m focusing on. And just as I expect it of others in 2019 I strive to be a radiator to all those around me. I want to be someone who is fun to be around, who makes others feel good about themselves and makes the effort.

This year do it your way - make resolutions if they work for you or don't. I hope 2019 gives you butterflies in your stomach and brings you closer to wherever you want to be in life.

Cheers to a beautiful New Year.
