How to Maintain Your Handbags

Women will often overstuff their handbag, throw it on the floor, and then wonder why it looks like it's been used for a hundred years. I have been guilty of doing that to many of my bags but over time have come to appreciate the things I have a bit more and with a little TLC you can achieve longer lasting bags too.

Tip #1
Lighten your load.

Filling your bag past capacity can distort the shape, wear out the straps, and tear the lining. Never carry a loose pen--take notes on your phone. Ink stains are impossible to get out; oil stains are terrible too.

Tip #2
Don't ever get it wet.

It's very difficult to repair a fine bag with water damage. It's better to just carry a nice synthetic bag that can stand up to nasty weather.

Tip #3
Get it off the floor.

The floor is where a bag gets ruined--someone kicks it or spills red wine on it, your screwed. Plus it's just disgusting. Just taking this step makes a huge difference in the longevity of your bag.

Tip #4
Empty it out at the end of the day.

It's the inside of the bag that gets really neglected. That's where you find the stray gum or cough drop. Taking care of your bag from the inside out is a good policy. If your that careless with the inside it often carries over to the exterior.

Tip #5
Clean it right.

Brighten dingy Leather with method leather love wipes or a damp Kitchen Towel. Those computer-screen dust wipes are great for patent-leather and synthetic bags. Spot-clean cloth or canvas bags with a damp, white kitchen towel and a bit of mild dish detergent, if necessary. Blot, don't rub. A suede brush will spruce up the nap and lift surface dirt. And keep your suede bags away from direct sunlight--they fade quickly.

Tip #6
Trust the experts.

If you have a scuff or mark that won't budge after gentle cleansing, visit a cobbler or leather doctor. They can also adjust a fix broken seams.

I hope these tips help you with your fine handbags/bags. Please be sure to comment below if you have any other tips on how to clean handbags. I will see you in my next post, have a beautiful day everyone!
