Healing With Hask

Tags: hair

As you all know, I dye my Hair pretty frequently. To keep the purple shade I love so much, I have to bleach my roots every few months, which, as you can imagine, dries out my hair quite a bit. I'm really gentle with my hair aside from the bleaching, but I'm always on the lookout for new products to improve my hair's health, so when Hask offered to let me try their Keratin Protein collection, I jumped at the opportunity. Keratin is known for its moisturizing, strengthening, and rejuvenating properties, and the collection is designed specifically for damaged hair that needs a boost- basically, it's absolutely ideal for color-treated hair. The line is also completely free of sulfates, parabens, gluten, phthalates, drying alcohol, and artificial colors. For the ultimate test, I decided to go two weeks using nothing but these products to see how my hair felt after it was over.
The first items in the collection are their Smoothing Shampoo and Conditioner. These products did a wonderful job of keeping my recently-colored hair from fading too much, which is quite an accomplishment considering how quickly semi-permanent dye fades! The smell is also really lovely, they're definitely some of the best smelling hair products I've ever used!
Next is their Smoothing Deep Conditioner. Used in place of regular conditioner, this is designed to be applied to wet hair after shampooing, left for ten minutes, and rinsed out as normal. I initially thought the amount of time this has to be left would be bothersome, but I ended up having to shave my legs on the day I used this, and by the time I was finished, the ten minutes were up, so the timing actually works fine. The moisture in this mask also packed a punch. My hair was extremely soft and moisturized after using this, and I could barely even tell a difference between my recently-bleached roots and the rest of my hair. My only tip for using this is to make sure you rinse it well. It may take a bit longer than regular shampoo, but it's worth it. This stuff has a knack for clinging to your hair, and you don't want to make it feel oily by not getting it out completely!
I think the Smoothing Shine Oil was my least favorite product in the collection, but not for the reason you'd expect. It made my hair very shiny, and it completely delivered on the moisture, but I feel like it overly delivered in some aspects. It definitely contributed to my hair's healing process, but it also made it feel a bit oily. I lost a bit of my usual volume due to the weight of the product, but I do think it did a good job providing a bit of extra shine and adding life into my dry hair.

After the two weeks were up, I could definitely see a difference in my hair. When you have colored hair, EVERYONE wants to touch it, and I had more people than usual comment on how healthy my hair felt, which was definitely a plus. The only downside was the aforementioned oiliness of my hair, making it feel like I had to wash it more than I actually did. I'm probably the only one that noticed it, but I could feel that, especially in the back where my hair is thicker, my hair felt oilier than usual, which I didn't love. However, considering how well my hair has healed from the bleaching, I think that's a side effect I'm willing to deal with. Overall, I've really enjoyed my experience with the products, and I would definitely recommend this line to anyone who regularly lightens their hair. And it you don't have processed hair, Hask offers their Argan Oil, Macadamia Oil, Monoi Coconut Oil, Mint Almond Oil, and Essentials collections to make sure there's an option for every hair type.
