WHITE JEANS FOR WORK: STYLING THIS BUSINESS-CASUAL SUMMER STYLE

Conceptually, white Jeans are awesome. Wearing them, on the other hand, can be tricky. Being potential stain magnets aside, the idea of fitting your bum into a pair and what it will look like once you do can be harrowing. However, before writing white jeans off completely, we’re not swimming in a sea of skinny jeans any longer. The days of pouring yourself into a pair don’t have to be. Given that fashion has a variety of leg shapes available, you can still get a pair of skinny jeans, but now you have other options.

WHITE JEANS FOR WORK

Despite the workplace becoming more casual, jeans in the workplace should always be worn to the degree of professionalism required at work, and even if your workplace is super casual, it should go without saying that your jeans, regardless of color, be neat and tidy. Wearing them appropriately is also all in the styling. To give you some ideas, I have put together five white jeans for work looks using five different leg shapes.

OUTFIT #1

A trouser jean is always a great professional choice. It’s jeans with a tailored appearance. I styled this J.Crew pair with a bold check blazer from Veronica Beard. I layered a cotton sweater tee from COS underneath the blazer and picked up the green in the check using these kelly green pumps from J.Crew. The look is finished with a navy belt and cobalt stud earrings.

OUTFIT #2

If white is too stark of a color for you, shades like bone and ecru make softer alternatives. This easy, relaxed leg 90’s inspired jeans style from Everlane is much more casual than the trouser jeans and is a great casual style, but when the right elements are brought together to build this look, the outfit becomes perfect for a business-casual workplace. I added the M.M. Lafleur Merritt jardigan that I layered over a grey scoop neck tee and I finished the look with pops of color using this orange loafer from M.Gemi, a bright printed scarf and belt from Anthropologie, and silver linear earrings from Ralph Lauren.

OUTFIT #3

Bootcut jeans have been back and while I’m still reluctant to go back to them, I know that many are embracing it. For work, I styled this pair from Paige with a striped poplin button-down from Massimo Dutti, a navy cotton-blend cardigan with red accents from White + Warren, and finished the look with navy patent leather block heel pumps, a red belt, and layered necklace from M.M. Lafleur.

OUTFIT #4

This tusk-colored cropped boot from M.M. Lafleur allows you to adjust the hem to different lengths using an interior snap. For work, I styled them with a tan t-shirt under a plaid relaxed blazer from Argent, and finished the look with classic Weejun loafers, a brown belt from J.Crew, and horn bangles.

OUTFIT #5

These jeans from Madewell scream the early 90s to me. The top reminds me of the Z.Cavarichi jeans girls, and guys I went to high school with wore. But, alas, what is old is new again, and there are ways to embrace a denim style like this, even for work, if styled right. I added this short sleeve button-front shirt from Splendid, a grey belt, and dove-colored block-heel sandals. To finish things off, I added these organic, frontal hoop earrings from Karine Sultan.

I may not be able to show you how to keep your white jeans stain-free at work, but I can show you some ideas on how to style them. Now that we’re not all squeezing ourselves into our white skinnies, with a little styling, the new jeans silhouettes out there will most definitely be workplace friendly.
