Some weeks, work can be challenging enough without adding the discomfort of wearing work clothes that don’t feel good. Ugh, all you want to be is comfortable but your workplace certainly won’t allow for you to roll in wearing a pair of joggers and the sweater you wear for binge-watching a whole season of whatever on Sunday.

How to be Stylish and Comfortable at Work

Certainly, there must be some middle ground between human sloth and binding work clothes. Well, of course there is, and I am going to show you how to be both stylish and comfortable at work.

Outfit #1

You’re in a situation where a suited look would be preferable but you don’t want to go the traditional suit route, plus, you want to be comfortable. Ponte is one of the best fabrics for workplace comfort. It offers ease and stretch while tailoring well in more structured pieces.

I styled this affordable Modcloth suit (link to jacket, link to pants), with a tank from Nic + Zoe in burgundy. I finished the look with a pair of Vince slip-on sneakers in grey, a burgundy tote from Tory Burch.

Outfit #2

This is another stylish and comfortable work look using ponte. I styled these ponte pants from Tommy Hilfiger with a relaxed sweater from Saks 5th Avenue that looks more polished but has the same comfort as a sweater that could be worn on the weekend. I finished the look with chestnut booties from AGL, convertible backpack from Rebecca Minkoff, and basket hoop earrings from Madewell.

Outfit #3

Sweater dresses can seem like a comfortable option for work, and they certainly can be. But not all do. Many can be clingy and require layers of support, like Spanx, and other sweater dresses can look lumpy and too relaxed. What I like about this style from Hobbs is it offers the comfort that knits can provide while also having some structure and a fuller skirt which can alleviate clinginess and the possible need for shapewear. I finished the outfit with navy booties from Bella Vita, stone charm pendant necklace from Ralph Lauren, and soft blue bag from Coach.

Outfit #4

In this outfit, I used an unstructured blazer from Madewell to create a relaxed professional look. Obviously, this type of outfit wouldn’t work in a conversative work environment but it does offer someone who works in a more relaxed workplace the opportunity to look professionally finished and comfortably dressed at the same time. I added this top from Amour Vert, relaxed pants from Eileen Fisher, red flats from Everlane, long multi-strand necklace from Kendra Scott and laptop case tote from Dagne Dover.

Outfit #5

In this last look, I this long pleated skirt from A.L.C. that offers comfort and ease of movement. I added this soft, comfortable sweater from Vince that looks elevated when paired with the skirt. I finished the look with burgundy booties from Sam Edelman, a navy bag from Rebecca Minkoff and a gold link necklace from Nordstrom.

Comfortable and Stylish: You can have your cake and eat it too.

Unlike the saying, you can’t have your cake and eat it too, I believe in the case of being comfortable and stylish at work, you can. By pairing comfortable fabrics with professional silhouettes, you can have the best of both worlds.
