Did you know that as many as 1 in 2 women globally claim to have sensitive skin? That’s an astounding statistic, and it means that everyone of us would have experienced sensitive Skin at some point in our lives, and can identify with the redness, itchiness and stinging sensation often associated with overly-reactive skin. And it is no wonder as we live in polluted cities and stressful lifestyles, all leading to increased levels of skin sensitivity. To help care for our skin, Chanel has introduced the new La Solution 10 to soothe and defend against external aggressors. I have been using it with the newly formulated UV Essentiel, which not only further protects the skin, it also stimulates skin’s natural protective power.
Chanel La Solution 10 is so-named because it contains only 10 specially selected ingredients (out of hundreds researched in the process!) to ensure optimal skin tolerance. It took the Chanel Research Labs 4 years and 117 trials, under the advisement of famed dermatologist Dr Amy Wechsler, to perfect La Solution 10. So often when we talk about creams for sensitive skin, the discussion is limited to purely soothing the skin, and waiting for the skin’s natural repair mechanism to kick in. However, with La Solution 10, Chanel has gone a few steps ahead to also protect the skin from oxidative stress and reinforce the barrier function, all of which help to reduce sensitivity.
If ever there had been complains that Chanel does not make their ingredients easily accessible, La Solution 10 proudly displays its 10 ingredients clearly on the back of the bottle. At the heart of the formula is Silver Needle Tea Extract, which has been proven to be able to reduce the overproduction of NGF by 75%, effectively reducing oversensitivity of skin. Furthermore, Silver Needle Tea Extract contains one of the highest concentrations of antioxidants to prevent free radical damage on the skin. Finally, it stimulates keratinocyte differentiation which helps support the barrier function, defending against dehydration and inflammation.
La Solution 10 is a slightly heavier fluid that is comforting on stressed out skin, yet it is easily absorbed by the skin and does not leave behind an oily film. More importantly, it does not feel heavy on the skin once applied, making it ideal for daytime use under makeup. It contains vegetal squalane and glycerin to infuse skin with hydration; shea butter extract to moisturize and promote healing; and lauroyl lysine and caprylyl glycol to soften the skin. A single pump keeps my dry, dehydrated skin perfectly moisturized all day long!
I do like that Chanel has packaged La Solution 10 in a handy-sized plastic bottle that is lightweight and suitable for travelling. My skin is often most reactive during travels, drying airplane air, different environmental conditions and even water, contribute to increased levels of sensitivity that my usual skincare products are often unable to address sufficiently. La Solution 10 is definitely going on my next trip with me, and one of my top picks for skin SOS situations!
To complement La Solution 10, I’ve also been enjoying Chanel’s recently reformulated UV Essentiel Multi-Protection Daily Defender UV-Pollution SPF50+/PA+++. I love a high SPF sunscreen, and so the moment I received this I immediately put it to the test and have been loving it. Lightweight and slim in design, this is one chic sunscreen that I actually would love to bring around in my handbag and slip out for mid-day touch-ups!
The texture is incredibly light and fluid, and it is important to shake the bottle thoroughly before application as it tends to separate when left alone. It applies with a slightly white cast, but disappears within seconds as the product dries down. It does not leave behind any greasy reside, in fact it is lightly mattifying; and it does not add any weight to the skin at all. Instead, UV Essentiel wears incredibly well with any makeup that I’ve paired it with.
A blend of physical and chemical sunscreens provide broad-spectrum defense against harmful UVA and UVB rays. Glycyrrhiza Glabra Root Extract combined with Tocopherol protects skin with anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant benefits. What sets the latest reformulation apart is the inclusion of Gardenia Tahitensis Flower Extract. This ingredient is able to stimulate and reactivate a chain of naturally occurring proteins in the skin called SPRRs that preserves cells’ macroenvironment and DNA throughout periods of long-term stress. SPRRs are credited with helping skin adapt the intensity of its natural shield against of external aggressors, preventing hyperpigmentation and other signs of photo-aging. A perfect pairing, both in terms of textures and benefits, Chanel La Solution 10 and UV Essentiel SPF50+ have been my daily go-tos for the past month. I highly recommend La Solution 10 for those of you who frequently suffer from sensitized skin – this is not one that claims to heal your skin, but it soothes and keeps skin in check.
