SUQQU UK Exclusive Summer 2019 URBAN PRISM Collection

It has been awhile since I had the opportunity to review Suqqu collections, and I was pleasantly surprised to see how adventurous the brand has grown.  I’m excited by color, and I found the latest capsule release exclusive to the UK to be a refreshing change.  It is a concise collection comprising of an Eyeshadow Compact, 2 Pure Color Blush palettes, 2 Matte Lip Crayons and a new Holographic Glow Crayon.  I received some of these last week, and am delighted to share them with you today.

The star of the Urban Prism Collection is the 8-shade Eyeshadow Compact 101.  When I first laid eyes on this, my immediate reaction was that it was actually composed of 2 quads.  However, once I dipped into it, I realized it was so cleverly designed that the shades really do work well with each other across the entire palette.  Unlike so many other palettes out there that simply cram all the colours of the rainbow or inflections around a colour theme, SUQQU has managed to magick seemingly contrasting shades to complement each other.

Here are some arm swathes according to their relative placement in the compact:

As you can see, there is a mix of satin and shimmer shades.  All 8 shades are neutral- to cool-toned, so there is no potential clash to worry about.  I was surprised to find the shades to be incredibly pigmented, which is quite unlike Japanese makeup in general.  All of the swatches above are single swipes.  The amazing thing is once my brush dips in, it is a dream to work with, easy to blend and work beautifully on my skin tone.

SUQQU has some gorgeous model looks on their Instagram, but in case you would like to see how Eyeshadow Compact 101 looks on a real everyday woman, here are a couple of my own eotds:

To complement the relatively bold eye looks, SUQQU has designed 2 Pure Color Blush palettes.  Each comprise of 3 shades that may either be used individually or blended together.  One of the palettes is lighter, cooler-toned, suitable as a light blush or a highlighter.  The other palette, SUQQU Pure Color Blush 114 Prismatic Bronzer – Kousai as shown below is darker, warmer-toned, suitable as a blush and contour.

Here are the swatches:

An alternative highlighter comes in the form of a jumbo crayon, SUQQU Holographic Glow Crayon 101 Sumireboshi.  It is a multi-hued shimmer with a semi-transparent base in a cream-to-powder finish.  The texture lends it well to be used layered over lipsticks or blushes, and the narrowed crayon tip allows it to be used more precisely in areas such as the corners of the eyes, cupids bow, etc.  I found it easy to blend out as a highlighter on the cheeks ad high points of the face, and comfortable to wear on the lips.

For the lips, check out the SUQQU Matte Lip Crayon.  These are the usual swivel-up jumbo crayons that we are all familiar with, the narrowed tip allows for easy access in tight corners for lining as well as, whilst the broad side quickly covers the entire lip with a single swipe.  There are 2 shades, a dark wine red and a medium-light brown (shade 104 swatched above).  Both are rather matte, easy to apply without skipping or tugging, but not the most comfortable matte lipstick that I’ve ever tried.  The interesting thing is the texture lends itself well to applying on the cheeks where it has amazing longevity.

Putting all the 4 pieces from this collection that I have together, here is a full makeup look:

I used the brown and orange tones from the Eyeshadow Compact 101 to create a more natural, easy-to-wear day look on my lids here.  For my cheeks, I first swiped the 2 brown tones on Pure Color Blush 114 on the sides of my face and along my cheek bones to sculpt, then I buffed the pink shade on the right of the palette on the apples.  I used the Holographic Glow Crayon on my cupids bow and nose ridge; and finally Matte Lip Crayon 104 on my lips.

This SUQQU Urban Prism Collection is currently available at Selfridges, and will launch at Harrods and Fenwick Bond Street on 16 May.
