Hello from Cologne, Germany!  This is my 3rd business trip this month, and hopefully the last for the year.  What a difference a couple of month made… it was at least partially sunny when I was here last September, now winter makes its dominance noticeable with grey skies and fog.  No better time to whip out the 2 new palettes from Hourglass for my personal lighting crew.  Launched exclusively for this Holiday 2018, check out the swatches below.

Hourglass releases 2 new palettes this Holiday 2018, the first – Hourglass Ambient Lighting Edit – Unlocked – features 6 new exclusive shades!  It contains a selection of the brand’s famed ambient lighting powder, bronzer, blush and highlighter.  Quite possibly covers all your powder needs in 1 sleek metallic bronze palette.  Here are the swatches:

• Soft Light is very close to my natural skin tone, and it is so finely milled it completely disappears when applied, giving skin a subtle finishing touch that does not become overly matte.
• Filtered Light is perhaps better suited for those with a slightly darker skin tone or may be used for very light contour.  Again, it is so light and airy it does not tint the skin much.
• Golden Bronze Light has a slight golden shimmer and gives a glamorous touch to the complexion.  I used it for contouring and found the effect very subtle.
• Nude Glow is a beautiful glowy natural flush.  It has a golden sheen on top of a peachy-beige blush.
• Mood Flush reminds me of Chanel Accent and Benefit Rockateur [see here], and is the sort of chic shade that I can wear all year round.
• Champagne Strobe Light is surprisingly high intensity when swatched, with a strong metallic flash.  When applied with a very loose highlighter brush though, the effect is much more diffused.  But you can definitely achieve full opacity using a dense brush and buffing it into the skin.

For the collectors, check out the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Edit – Volume 4.  This comes in a super pretty metallic pink compact, and features 4 bestselling shades from Hourglass.  There are also 2 new exclusive shades as follows:

• Filtered Bronze Light – a subtle warm-hued powder that may be used to bring a soft glow to complexions
• Luminous Glow – is a bright coral blush with a hint of champagne sheen

I am completely and utterly in love with Hourglass blushes because they give that beautiful luminous glow to the cheeks, and a natural flush-from-within effect.  The complexion powders in general are very subtle, and best likened to Guerlain’s meteorites.  They don’t dry out the skin, nor emphasize lines and pores, which make them perfect for those with matured skin.  But from my experience, they don’t help with oil control or extend the longevity of your makeup.  The pans in these palettes are too small for dipping in my usual fluffy powder brushes, so I have to switch over to a loose cheek brush instead.

Hourglass had expanded beyond base makeup a couple of years ago, and though I had grabbed a few of their new lipsticks I never got around to reviewing them.  These Hourglass Confession Ultra Slim Lipsticks are AMAZING to say the least.  The nifty sleek packaging is even more appealing to me than the Louboutins, and the names are all so tantalising.  The best part is the rich creamy formula and beautiful saturated colour.
