Chanel Les Beiges Healthy Glow Natural Eyeshadow Palette & Sheer Colour Stick

It’s summer, and I’m feeling a little restless… I don’t have the mood nor patience to spend hours perfecting my makeup.  Instead, I’m choosing pieces that are as easy to wear as possible, and Chanel‘s current Les Beiges collection for Summer 2017 hits all the right spots for me.  I’ve already reviewed some of the pieces here and here, and today I’d like to show you a couple of color makeup for the eyes and cheeks.

Chanel Les Beiges Healthy Glow Natural Eyeshadow Palette surprised me… I’m not the biggest fan of sheer, natural eye makeup, so this wasn’t the most compelling piece for me based on the press images, but when I swatched it for myself, I found my cynicism melt away.

The palette is the same size of any Chanel eyeshadow palettes, but housed in the chic Les Beiges case.  It contains 5 powder eyeshadows in a rich silky texture that seems to melt to the touch, and glides on the skin like butter.  The colours are in a range of skin-loving hues that serve to enhance the eyes without detracting from their natural beauty.  The thoughtful inclusion of a light beige and a soft black allows for a good range of intensities.

The shades, as swatched from left to right, are:

  • Top of palette – pale pinky-beige with a pearl finish
  • Middle, left of palette – light taupe with a matte finish
  • Middle, right of palette – medium brown with a satin finish
  • Bottom, right of palette – light taupe with a strong luminous sheen
  • Bottom, left of palette – matte, soft black

Each of the shades are nicely pigmented, and the black shade is one of the smoothest blacks I have ever seen. As the colours are quite close to my roughly NC25 skin tone, they meld in and do not stand out when worn on their own.  This makes for an easy day-appropriate look without any blending fuss.  For a smokey night-event, I would simply use the black as a darkening base, and layer one or more of the other shades over.

Summer is always about nude, sun-kissed skin… and the last thing you want after perfecting that luminous translucent base, is to cover it up with big blobs of blush.  Instead, I have been reaching for Chanel Les Beiges Healthy Glow Sheer Colour Stick.  These were first launched 2 years ago in 3 shades (No. 20-22), which were all devoid of shimmer.  Chanel adds 2 new shades this year – No. 23 & 24, and both are sheerer (at least when compared to No. 22 which is the only 1 I have in my stash) and contain iridescent micro-shimmers.

As you can see from the side-by-side swatches above, No. 23 is a soft salmon-pink, whilst No. 24 is more orange than the older No. 22.  The formula remains the same cream-to-powder finish, although I feel the new ones have a little bit more slip than before.  Combined with the sheerer formulation, there is a tendency to blend into nothingness if using a brush.  The best way is therefore to simply swipe the Sheer Colour Sticks directly on the cheeks, and then gently tap away the edges with fingers.  You could also pat the Healthy Glow Gel Touch Foundation over using the sponge to blend it into the skin for that lit-from-within flush, the way the Koreans would do it.

I don’t excel at nude makeup, and started by applying the satin brown all over my lid and smoked out the edges of my eye for definition.  I couldn’t resist adding a pop of cheeky red lipstick.  But on the cheeks here I am wearing the Sheer Colour Stick in No. 24.

And the next day I wore the black as a base all over the lids, and layered the matte taupe over, and a dash of luminous taupe in the center.  Paired with Healthy Glow Sheer Colour Stick No. 23 on the cheeks, and a softer red on the lips.  This is the easiest look by far, short of using one of those jumbo eyeshadow sticks, and I really enjoy the complex yet soft flattering hue.

If you already own a large number of neutral eyeshadow palettes, you probably don’t need the Chanel Les Beiges Healthy Glow Natural Eyeshadow Palette.  But then you will be missing out on a very travel-friendly, and chic piece of makeup.  I love Chanel’s Les Beiges Healthy Glow Sheer Colour Sticks, and am so happy to see 2 new subtly different shades.

Have you tried any of this season’s Chanel Les Beiges yet?
