When it comes to an outdoor Wedding, guest attire needs to be in tune with the setting.  In past posts, I have talked about what to wear to a beach wedding and what to wear to a vineyard wedding. But what about what to wear to a garden wedding? Here are a few ideas.

FLORAL DRESSES ARE A NATURAL CHOICE

Garden weddings range from low-key affairs at home in the backyard, to elaborate spreads in large parks surrounded by lush gardens and fountains. They are pretty, romantic and usually very traditional.

Naturally, the easiest way to fit in with the botanical theme is to wear feminine, floral wedding guest attire. For an afternoon wedding, you could go a couple of different ways: pastel dresses are always appropriate, or you could wear brighter florals, so long as they didn’t  look too tropical. (Leave Hawaiian tropical prints for a beach or destination wedding).

Florals against dark backgrounds like navy or black are very popular at the moment. They can be nice for a garden wedding so long the look isn’t too dark and moody. You’re going to a light, happy, sun -filled  outdoor wedding, so nothing edgy or goth-like.

LACE IS LOVELY

Lace is always a perfect choice for a wedding, and it’s particularly romantic for a garden wedding. This dress cream and taupe lace dress with pleated banding is classic with a modern twist. It’s just the look, so many of you have been asking me for.

PASTELS ARE PRETTY

Attending an afternoon garden wedding surrounded by all those flowers is a little like being at a lovely tea party, which is why a feminine dress in a delicate shade of pink, pale blue, violet or mint green would fit right in. Pastels are always a popular choice for weddings, but look especially nice in a garden setting.

You can keep the look from being too sugary sweet, by simply adding a patterned clutch and some sophisticated heels to ground your outfit. Heels are fine for a patio, but if you are on the grass wedges or block heels will be better.

MAXI DRESSES GO WITH THE EASY BREEZY FEEL 

A maxi dress is another good option for a garden wedding.  There are many floral maxis out there, but you could also go with a solid color or a classic print.

Silver accessories highlight the gorgeous pink shade and make it look fresh and modern. You can never go wrong with metallic heels for a wedding. However, if you know for sure the wedding will be held on grass and not a patio, you then wedge or even block heels are more practical.
