According to the calendar year, summer has ended for Australia, but hopefully the sun stays around for a little while longer.
Since finishing uni and entering full time work, I have a newfound appreciation for weekends – I don’t have to study and I can just relax before going back to the 9-5 grind.
So during the summer, I was adamant to make the most out of my weekends. This meant exploring more beaches in Victoria.
I am not the greatest fan of city beaches here in Melbourne and after waking up a little late on a Saturday morning, Ivor and I were debating whether to go to somewhere easy and close, like Brighton Beach or make a long journey to the Mornington Peninsula. We weren’t keen for either. So we hopped in the car and decided to go somewhere “in between” and ended up at Mount Martha.
I had a preconception that Mount Martha would just be like a city beach – too many people, grainy sand and litter (apologies fellow Melburnians for the very cynical view of our local beaches).
I was totally surprised when we were driving into Mount Martha and saw orange (yes orange!) fine sand with beautiful blue green ocean water, large cliffs faces and gorgeous brightly coloured beach boxes.
We spent the day reading, swimming, eating and exploring. It was lovely.
Sadly, with the new fences on the cliffs, I didn’t make it to the pillars at Mount Martha. If anyone has any tips on how to get there safely, please let me know!
