“Hello Gorgeous!” Two words with the power to make a difference.
With millions of Mary Kay Independent Beauty Consultants worldwide, we hear some pretty amazing stories of the far reaching impact of Mary Kay love spread throughout communities in every corner of the globe. In our new blog series, “Sharing the Love,” we’re shining a light on a few of our favorites.
For Mary Kay Independent Sales Director Tricia DePauw of Grainger, Indiana, there’s no greater joy than being part of an “ambush makeover” for women battling cancer.
“It just touched me more than anything. I don’t have any women in my immediate family that have been affected by cancer but it touched my heart,” said Tricia.
What touched her heart is a nonprofit organization called "Hello Gorgeous!" Through donations of services and products, the organization provides surprise red-carpet experiences for women battling cancer. It begins with a nomination by family and friends and includes flowers, chocolates, spa services such as a manicure, pedicure and facial, as well as makeup application and hair care (or hair substitution) to give deserving women a professional makeover from head to toe!
After Mary Kay Independent Senior Beauty Consultant Kelly Taddeo approached Tricia about an opportunity to be part of the “Hello Gorgeous!” makeovers, the two quickly got to work and spearheaded an effort among other independent sales force members to donate everything a woman would need for a full Mary Kay look including eye color, cheek color, mascara, concealer, lip liner, lip gloss and lipstick, pressed powder and eyeliner. All at no cost to the “Hello Gorgeous!” ambush makeover recipients.
“It was a big vision and scared us a little of what this could really mean but for the past four years, we’ve continued our support and now our Mary Kay customers know how much we love ‘Hello Gorgeous!’ Through our combined efforts, we’ve been able to donate products to hundreds of women battling cancer who get to take home all our Mary Kay® products to recreate their makeover looks and feel beautiful day after day at a critical time in their lives,” said Tricia.
With “compact fill parties” and a commitment to help women in their communities, Tricia and dozens of Mary Kay Independent Beauty Consultants are sharing the Mary Kay love.
“There’s a sense of community in our efforts through ‘Hello Gorgeous!’ I love the financial freedom and flexibility of my Mary Kay business but I also love that it has a greater purpose. I get to fulfill someone else’s dreams. She’s not just a woman with cancer, but a woman who can just feel truly beautiful.”
