Add To Bucketlist: The Legian, Bali

BY: VANESSA ROBERTS

Over Christmas, I was lucky enough to spend two magical weeks in Bali. I had not visited Bali itself since the ’90’s (yes, really that long) and boy did I love it this time around.

Whilst no holiday ever feels long enough, in two weeks my partner and I were easily able to cover three stops on the Bali trail: Seminyak, Ubud and Nusa Dua, whilst feeling rejuvenated and rested in each. Each destination was filled with it’s own unique quirks and charms and there was never any shortage of things to do, or in our case – places to eat.

We enjoyed an amazing cross-section of dining in Bali, sampling everything from local warungs (family restaurants) to Australian-esque cafes, international night clubs and everything in between.

One absolute stand-out however was our night at ‘The Restaurant‘ at The Legian Hotel in Seminyak. For anyone who hasn’t experienced The Legian – one word: GO.

Occupying one of the best stretches of Seminyak beach, The Legian Bali is quite simply one of the most amazing Hotel properties I have seen. Part of the Leading Hotels of the World, The Legian is a stealthy, super-premium hotel with Zen-like interiors and a relaxed vibe.

Fronting the hotel’s infinity pool and beach, The Restaurant is positioned for ultimate sunset enjoyment. And let me say this, the sunsets in Bali are none too shabby! From our front row seat at the restaurant we were literally mesmerised as we sipped a cocktail and watched the most amazing sunset unfold right before us.

Dinner at The Restaurant is a relaxed yet chic affair. Elegantly decorated with sculptures, floral installations and swathes of stone and glass, an in-house pianist soothes the soul whilst the glittering infinity pool before you provides the eye-candy.

The meals at The Restaurant are an innovative and elegant fusion of contemporary French and classic South East Asian cuisine created by executive Chef Luke MacLeod. The seasonal ingredients (sourced locally) and are the freshest of the fresh.

Snapshots from the meal

We experienced a multi-course extravaganza that included Lombok sashimi (one of the restaurant’s signature dishes), beautiful rock lobster, skewered lamb, colossal-sized prawns, and an exquisite chocolate dessert. Other seasonal dishes include Wagyu rib-eye beef and tamarind and chilli braised octopus.

Our meal was faultless in all aspects. Incredible, fresh flavours combined with impeccable service and views to die for. It was a truly special experience at The Legian, and a highlight not only of our trip but one of the best experiences I have enjoyed in general.

A visit to this prestigious all-suite hotel, with it’s two infinity-pools, breathtaking views, world-class service and of course, the amazing restaurant, definitely needs to be added everyone’s bucket-list. I cannot wait to go back.

The Legian is located at Seminyak beach in Bali.
