Millbry Hill Supported Riders At Bramham 2019

All the action at Bramham from our Supported Riders

That’s a wrap for Bramham 2019, another year been and gone. If you didn’t make it this year, we’ve put together a summary from our Supported Riders…from Storm strutting her stuff on the Trot Up to Julie finishing in the top 25 ten years since she last competed at Bramham!

Taking the trot up by Storm!

Sorry, we couldn’t resist…

Storm Straker took the Joules Wiscombe Tweed Blazer for a spin at the Trot up on day one of the event, as you can see the smile says it all and she pulled together a classy outfit pairing the blazer with a pair of white skinnies and a Navy shirt similar to the Holland Cooper Ladies Zip Shirt in Navy, dressed down with a pair of cool and practical trainers (nobody wants to contest a heel whilst keeping up with a horse).

“It was a lovely jacket and fitted so well, especially at the waist where I find that most jackets hang off me! I really like the colour and the pattern of the tweed, it was a colour that could be jazzed up with the pink/red stripes tying in with a bright hat or worn more plain! The sleeve length was also great which I usually struggle with!”

“As most of you have seen from my Millbry Hill takeover Bramham this year didn’t quite go as I had hoped. Things in life are sent to challenge us and although I thoroughly enjoyed my very expensive dressage test it was also so nice to see everyone who you don’t always see due to living up North. Yet I still had the privilege of watching the pros and being surrounded by them! There is always next year and I am blessed that my horse is in one piece and not injured!”

Success for Julie ten years on

“What a week! Bramham was everything I could have hoped for, It was Charlie’s first attempt at this level and ten years and two children since I had been to Bramham so the pressure was on to try and make it a good one. Add this to it being a local event so every second person is someone who you know and you definitely don’t want to make a fool of yourself!

We were doing dressage on Thursday so I was hoping to miss the rain that had been forecast for most of the week and I was in luck! Charlie did a beautiful test, just fluffing the changes which we are not yet established in and came out with a very respectable 32.9 and having walked the cross country, I was pretty sure it wasn’t going to be a dressage competition! Sadly, the weather deteriorated on Saturday and we did our showjumping in the pouring rain but I was very pleased with our round and we only had one down.

We then had a long wait till our cross country that afternoon, which is always a nerve racking time as it gives you far too long to think about how you are going to jump each jump and lets you watch the long format horses jump round, which is very dangerous as you can start to doubt your lines through combinations when others get it wrong. Fortunately, this didn’t happen to us and Charlie was amazing, jumping every fence exactly as I wanted, he was a star and even coped with the twenty minute hold just before the water. We were clear with only 3.6 time penalties, which was a great result and we finished in the top twenty five!

To add to all this , Owen (Primitive Faerie Tale) was in the stallion parade and had a lovely time showing off to the crowds, he always makes me proud!”

Cupido IV rose to the challenge with James

“So proud of Cupido who competed at Bramham last weekend in the CCI4s. He really showed his class competing at this level for the first time! I was pleased with his dressage test, albeit a little disappointed with his mark, however being drawn first to go didn’t do us any favours. He jumped a super clear round in the show jumping. Minus an inexperienced moment at fence 7 Cupido gave me a great ride in the XC and he certainly grew in confidence round the meaty track which we tackled in tough conditions…lots learnt from this weekend.”

PB in the Dressage for Tanya and Candy

So after a personal best dressage and a fab clear Show Jumping unfortunately my poor horse tied up on the Cross Country so Bramham didn’t quite end there way we wanted it to. The good news is the vet team were brilliant and hopefully she will make a full recovery and be out again soon!
