The Best Summer Products & Fly Repellents According To Our Supported Riders & Brand Ambassadors

Year in year out Equestrians are presented with the same problem…flies! Seemingly due to a few hot Summers (which were not complaining about!), the presence of Flies seems to be getting stronger each year and can be a huge irritation for horses. There are many different types of flies that can cause serious irritation for your horse, and some flies such as horse flies that often leave horses with painful bites.

As well as being tortured in the field, some horses are bothered more by flies than others and you may find that the flies can cause problems when you are riding; such as head shaking, kicking out and stamping.

Fortunately, there are plenty of options to help relieve your horse from the stress of flies such a fly rugs and fly repellent sprays…but with so many products on the market, where to start?!

We caught up with a few of our Supported Riders and Brand Ambassadors, to find out what really works!

LeoVet Power Phaser Fly Spray

Supported Rider, Tanya Buckingham, strongly recommends the LeoVet Power Phaser Fly Spray “I use the LeoVet Power Phaser Fly Spray, Le Mieux fly masks and have a mixture of the Saxon, Weatherbeeta and Masta fly rugs for when mine are out in the field! We poo pick the fields everyday which helps with the flies, but we are surrounded by trees and have a river so they do get bad in the Summer. We try to keep them in during the day ad they go out at night when the flies are not around.”

Amy Osborne also recommended the Power Phaser “I have used Leovet Power Phaser fly spray for a while now after recommendation when I had a horse with sweet itch and it really works I now use it on everything. This is the first one we have found that works for the whole day and not just when you put it on. I do find it quite expensive but totally worth it. The smell isn’t great but you don’t mind that either when the product is so good!”

Supported Rider, Hannah Atkinson, uses the Power Phaser too and also has keeps her ponies protected in the Amigo Aussie All Rounded fly rugs: “We swear by the power phaser too! Its the only fly spray we use. Most of ours are kitted out in the Amigo Aussie all rounder fly rugs, our ponies seem to love destroying rugs and have found these long lasting.”

NAF Off Citronella Spray

Jess recommends the Le Mieux Vogue Fly Hoods for keeping flies from irritating your horse when riding, which look super smart when out competing with their braided rope style.
