Jessica bring eventing season to an end….

I can’t quite believe that the Eventing season is almost over for 2018, where has the time and summer gone. At this point in the season I’ve sat down with Tanya, my coach to review the ponies’ performance and to set some final targets.

Reflecting back on the season it is fair to say some things have gone like a dream, but it can all be so unpredictable too. I’m learning fast in this sport that things happen for a reason and that there is always time to put new goals in place and different aims. And if you are on track, not to take it for granted but to enjoy every moment. It really is a case of learning to be completely adaptable, you plan, train and prepare to achieve in eventing and then it just doesn’t happen or it does and then luck plays its part too.

Kayla has given me such an incredible run this season, she truly is my pocket rocket and means the world to me, we’ve smashed personal bests, fulfilled dreams and tasted the highs and lows of the sport. I’m also thrilled with Max and his progress, he has stepped up in every way asked of him.

A big thank you to everyone who has supported me and the team. It is such a team effort, Tanya, my trainer, specialist coaches, sponsors, farrier, vet, saddle fitter, dentist, feed specialists, photographers to capture those special moments, family, friends and the list goes on – THANK YOU!

Over the coming months, like others, we will be brushing up on our dressage and show jumping, so will no doubt see some of you out and about on the circuit. In true eventer’s style, you will spot me by a mile competing in my tweed jacket.

With the drop in temperature, the ponies are now stabled overnight so I’ll be visiting my local Millbry Hill Store in Richmond to stock up on supplies and I may treat the ponies to a new rug or two with my parents’ approval. Wow, the choice of rugs stocked by Millbry Hill is amazing, they cater for every season, type, colour and style, I would certainly encourage you to take a look.
It is also that time of year when we are challenged by the thick winter coats of our four legged friends, with special attention to our rug choices being even more essential. Clipping to some of us but not all becomes part of our routine, a job my Mum despises and one I’m informed I’ll be mastering for myself over the coming months….wish me luck!

So in summing up this season I’d say eventing has taught me to prepare and more importantly how to recover if things don’t go to plan!
That’s all for now.
