Hi, I’m Katy, one the senior supported riders. I event my 15.3hh dun ISH ‘Wallace’, who is currently competing at BE100, hoping to move up to Novice by the end of the season. I have evented at 1* and Intermediate and compete and volunteer at events all over the North.

It’s safe to say my season hasn’t gone to plan. In the first week of the season I lost my main horse Finn in a freak stable accident. Finn has been the most incredible horse to own and it was very sad for all involved. Like most, I struggled with cancellations at Epworth, Staffordshire and then Breckenbrough, all having to abandon due to the awful weather. We finally managed to get out training on grass at Somerford with a couple of days training at U21 Northern Camp. We had a very productive first day, Wallace feeling on top form and jumped some really technical combinations. On the second day we had a very unfortunate parting of company, where I ended up tangled between his back legs and stood on several times! An ambulance ride to Crewe hospital followed, and after X-Rays it was concluded nothing was broken, just a serious trauma to my right calf which should be mended within a couple of weeks.

Sadly it’s taking much longer than expected with the ligaments in my ankle suffering too, so it looks like my season is on hold even longer. We have had to withdraw from Frenchfield BE100 this weekend and The Millbry Hill Richmond Horse Trials is looking unlikely too next weekend. I am rather fed up, but looking forward to going and supporting such a lovely event and seeing what lovely products Millbry Hill will be showcasing.

I was cheered up on Friday with a trip up to the Stokesly store where we grabbed a few bits and bobs for Wallace. Whilst on U21 camp we had a chat with a TopSpec nutritionist who suggested we put Wallace on a calming supplement to try help him think more rationally before spooking at anything he can! This was purchased along with some new riding boots, which I hope I can get my swollen leg into soon enough!

I hope to bring you more exciting news next time, but for now I will rest up and hopefully be back out soon!
