Fashion Weeks 2015

It’s that time of year again and I could not be more excited for this year’s Fashion weeks. Taking on the weeks are the most prominent fashion capitals of the world: New York, London, Milan and Paris. Other cities such as Porto, Rome, Sao Paulo and Berlin also have notable events that will definitely have your eyes stay glued to the runway.

Fashion Week 2015 Dates

New York September 10th – 17th 2015
London  September 18th – 22nd 2015
Milan  September 23rd – 29th 2015
 September 30th – October 7th 2015

New York Fashion Week 2015

As always, New York, the founding city of fashion week will kick things off with the first show on September 10th to 17th 2015. For the first time in over five year’s, NYFW15 will not be held at the Lincoln center and will be changing locations. As if fashion week is not exciting enough, IMG’s Catherine Bennett states that they are “focusing [their] efforts on having September 2015 be a kind of reinvention of New York Fashion Week”. Although I may not know whose designs will make the biggest splash this year, I thought I’d give you an insight to our favorites from last season.

1. Elie Saab: The Lebanese designer never fails to impress with his gorgeous dresses and intricate details. Typically, Saab’s designs plays with a neutral palette of mostly beiges and greys, but I can't wait for the bright and vivid color palette he intends to use for this year’s Spring/Summer collection. Utilizing sequins, ruffles and feathers, Saab has created a gorgeous couture line that is not only unique but also wearable.

 2. Jeremy Scott: Last season Scott took inspiration from Moschino’s McDonalds imagery to create a line that incorporated a number of characters including Shrek and Scooby Doo. To make this year’s show an even more enjoyable event, Scott has collaborated with Miley Cyrus to create a visually stimulating and colorful show. Check out some of Scott’s quirky designs below.

3. Ralph Lauren: As always, Ralph Lauren left all stunned with his last season collection – glam safari. Using mostly olive and off-white tones, he mixed military jackets and parkas with contradicting sequins and shine to create an unforgettable line this year. This season I’m hoping for something just as creative.

4. Delpozo: Runway app turned fashion week hub, designer Josep Font uses his Spanish roots to create an exquisite line. Font focuses on color blocking and putting contradicting fabrics like vinyl and silk together. If his collection this season will be anything like the last I know it will be stunning!

5. Marc Jacobs: Straying away from his class style Marc Jacobs last show left all in awe. He had the perfect play of fashion and high technology – using the play of music to showcase each outfit in a new light. At every seat was Beats by Dre headphones and while the models walked, onlookers heard the sound of the girls walking on different surfaces such as gravel and mud while another voice explained what was happening on the runway. The collection was an ode to housewives in the early 60s but with a military twist. I’m not so sure about how the outfits reflect housewives in the early 60s but it definitely was stylish.

London Fashion Week 2015

The second show of fashion weeks will be held from September 18th till the 22nd and showcase international designers.

1. Marchesa: One of the most prominent American houses to be featured in London fashion week, Marchesa undoubtedly stole the spotlight. Their collection dabbles with floral and bedazzled notes. They also explored the style of the iconic Brigitte Bardot in the 60s, which is always a plus. With this year’s standard looking so high I wonder if Marchesa will be able to steal the spotlight yet again this year?

2. Mary Katrantzou: Katrantzou may not embrace color or any special cut for her pieces, but she takes a huge risk by using snakeskin in most of her collection. Katrantzou beautifully used the snakeskin in a feminine and utterly flattering manner by combining it with delicate lace and subtle colors. Though I do love the look of the snakeskin, I am animal lover and can’t bare the thought of these animals being harmed in the name of fashion. I mean isn’t that why we created imitation leather?

3. Roksanda: Tailored to perfection, Roksanda proves that she is the master of color blocking and subtle boldness. I am so excited for the color scheme she’s going to introduce to her collection this season.

4. Erdem: The refreshing collection is a take on Victorian gardens and hot houses. Their idea was that as time went on flowers in the garden overtook the girls that were there, turning them from white to floral as seen with the prints. Without a doubt, the dresses are stunning; however, the real beauty lies in the painstaking attention that the designer had put in with fine laces, tweeds and layers of feathers.

5. Tom Ford: Using an old school, rock and roll vibe, Tom Ford wins over onlookers with his rendition of high fashion grit. With a mix of various fabrics and textures, the fashion house outdoes itself. I could definitely see these looks at high end club in London or New York.

Milan Fashion Week 2015

Following London, Milan fashion week is set for September 23rd to 29th. Although Milan is the least popular, it also is the most underrated. These Italian fashion houses are always presenting the world with iconic ideas year after year.

1. Etro: Bringing a bohemian feel to the mix, designer Veronica Etro incorporates paisley prints in tones of blue, green and pink turning it all into a fashionable hippie runway.

2. Roberto Cavalli: The beauty was all in the details for the last Cavalli show. The collection was nothing short of extraordinary, here is to hoping he’ll be able to do it all again this season.

3. Emilio Pucci: Finding inspiration from the Masai, a tribe in Kenya, designer Peter Dundas puts an ethnic mix to high fashion with beautiful colors and beadwork. Dundas offers the perfect blend between a high-end modern contemporary feel with an ethnic twist. Having had the pleasure the meet the Masai tribe at the Masai Mara, I can say with certainty that Dundas has done their beautiful culture and traditional wear justice.

4. Moschino: This house never fails to disappoint. It always brings something new, fresh and most of all fun! Last season they had a saint and a sinners theme, illustrating that small adjustments in design can make a huge difference. If this collection speaks to you, be sure to check out this blog post on their fast food inspired collection or their pink Barbie line.

5. MSGM: This designer is not only out of the box but their clothes cost less than most designers featured in fashion week. Embracing the summer heat this collection is inspired by tropical Polynesia. Why not try floral too, just click here for beautiful floral dresses available exclusively on

Paris Fashion Week 2015

Though not the founder of fashion week, Paris is the most popular event and will be live from September 30th to October 7th.  Showcasing beautiful European influences and innovative designs, Paris fashion week is sure to blow us out of the water. Here is a list of designers you must watch:

1. Balmain: My all time favorite designer, Olivier Rousteing wasted no time with boring monochromes and jumped straight into a bold graphic collection full with stripes, cages and checker that left onlookers in awe. As always Balmain sets his own standard, leaving absolutely no comparison. I’m hoping he’s going to be just as daring this season.

2. Alexander McQueen: The legendary brand is known for Avant Garde clothing that always amazes and they did just that last season with a Japanese Geisha theme. With the range of themes the designers choose from, what will their theme be this year? Let us know if you have any insights.

3. Lanvin: After celebrating 125 year’s, designer Alber Elbaz created a chic line with simple fabrics and colors. He focused on playing with proportions and silhouettes to make any woman look stylish and the clothes look well fitted.  Well, now you know that for some, design is not enough, the fit plays a big role too!

4. Chloe: Another renowned fashion house, Chloe, previously designed by the legendary Karl Lagerfeld and Stella McCartney, brings practicality to beautiful clothes.

5. Saint Laurent: Saint Laurent brought us the new edgy clubbing look, but in a high fashion way.

New Designers to watch:

Every year new designers make their debut at Fashion Week. Here a couple you should definitely keep on the watch!

Kanye West: World-renowned rapper and recent fashion designer, West, is making his way to fashion week for the second time. After revealing his collection under Adidas and receiving mixed reviews, he’s taking another go at it this September in New York. I hope he does better this time, as his collection was quite dull and lacking direction in comparison to the other great names of fashion week. Though his clothing could have been better, his runway was unlike any other. Check out this video to see his fashion week debut.

Rotten Roach: A London based t-shirt company will be making their debut this year. They’re known for their witty slogans and are often worn by models Cara Delevingne and Kate Moss. This show should be very interesting, as we've never had anything like it. But how will it measure up to the other designers? Let us know what you think!

Gabriela Cadena: This Ecuadorian fashion designer has been dressing celebrities from Shakira to Lupita Nyong'o ’o. I’ve prepared to see a lot of her on the red carpet in the near future. To keep yourself up to date, make sure to read our blog “United Colors of Lupita”.

Ran Fan: A chinese based designer, Ran Fan is a recent graduate of fashion design school Central Saint Martin’s and will aready be making her NYFW debut.

Banana Republic: A famous brand in most malls around the world is trying for a new high fashion line.  This should definitely be interesting!

I know I’m excited about fashion week and after this post I hope you are too.
